Associate Attorney-at-Law

A boutique commercial law firm and licensed corporate services provider located in Kingston Jamaica seeks a Commercial Associate Attorney-at-Law.

Job Purpose

Under the guidance of the Lead Attorney/s-at-Law, the Associate provides advice manages legal matters to support the corporate, commercial and intellectual property practice areas.

Key Responsibilities

Technical/Professional:

  • Conducts complex legal research to provide legal guidance and support in a time-sensitive manner
  • Liaises with government offices and registries towards lodging of documentation
  • Provides legal advice on all areas of commercial law with a special focus on technology related laws, mortgage registration, intellectual property and corporate governance.
  • Manages compliance requirements of clients in a timely manner


Administrative:

  • Participates in meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences, as required;
  • Prepares reports and other documents, as required;
  • Prepares and delivers presentations, as needed.
  • Performs any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time for the efficient running of the practice area


Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

Core:

  • Excellent interpersonal and team management skills;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills;

Technical

Minimum Required Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree;
  • Legal Education Certificate;
  • 3+ years of progressive experience at the Bar;
  • Postgraduate experience in a conveyancing or litigation role would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite including practice management software and legal research platforms (Lexis/Nexis).
