Associate Attorney

Ramsay and Partners, a commercial law firm in Kingston, Jamaica, seeks an Associate Attorney to join the firm. The Attorney should have 1-3 years of experience  in Jamaican law and possess excellent communication, research, and writing skills which are necessary for handling complex transactions and ensuring legal compliance. The Associate Attorney will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive legal advice, navigating intricate laws and regulations, and advocating for our clients' best interests.

 The responsibilities of the Associate Attorney position include:

 

  • Work under the supervision of firm Partners and independently to manage caseloads
  • Achieving and exceeding earnings targets on behalf of the firm
  • Prepare legal briefs and opinions
  • Represent clients in court or before government agencies
  • Probate wills and obtain letters of administration for clients and otherwise deal with the administration of estates
  • Analyze the probable outcomes of cases, using knowledge of legal precedents
  • Represent the buyer or purchaser in conveyancing matters
  • Communicate clearly and succinctly with clients, and provide clear and succinct status reports.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research, analysis, and interpretation of laws and regulations.
  • Draft and negotiate intricate contracts, agreements, and legal documents.
  • Advise clients on zoning laws, land use regulations, and environmental compliance related to real estate development projects.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys, experts, and professionals in multidisciplinary teams to create resolutions.
  • Manage and oversee the entire matter process, ensuring compliance, timely completion, and client satisfaction.
  • Provide legal guidance on real estate financing, mortgage agreements, and property tax matters.
  • Stay updated on current developments and trends in the practice of law through participation in professional development activities like attending conferences and continuing education programs to enhance expertise and knowledge.

 Required Qualifications:

  • BSC in Law and Legal Education Certificate

Experience:

  • 1-3 years practicing in a law firm or legal counsel at a corporation
  • Experience with Practice Management Software for law firms
  • Litigation, Commercial and Conveyancing 
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
  • Legal research and writing skills 
  • Ability to draft court documents and contracts
  • Customer focused and results oriented
  • Ability to work efficiently and under pressure in fast paced environments
  • Proficiency in various computer applications-Microsoft word, excel and power point
