The Assistant Manager, Strategic Planning will lead the development and execution of VMIL’s (and its subsidiaries) Medium-Term Strategic Plan, in alignment with the strategy of the VM Financial Group.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Accounts, or any other related quantitative field
  • MBA/MSc in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Accounts, or any other related quantitative field
  • Certifications in Strategy and/or Project Management
  • Completion of the Jamaica Securities Course or equivalent securities certification would be an asset
  • At least 5 years’ work experience in performance management using the Balanced Scorecard
  • Framework for a conglomerate and providing analyses and recommendations using same
  • Experience in Strategic Management, Business Planning
  • Experience conducting Strategic Business Planning Sessions would be an asset

Functional and Technical Skills:

  • Ability to use and interpret organisational data systems to support planning and decision making.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of business cases for potential new products, services, and business opportunities.
  • Analyse proposals for new products, services and business lines and provide recommendations.
  • Monitor and interpret trends within the organisation and the financial services industry, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Forecast performance outcomes based on historical performance and future expectations while taking into consideration economic, social, political, and environmental factors/risks.
  • Evaluate the performance of VMIL’s performance and position within the market and make strategic recommendations to achieve targets/improve performance and ensure competitive and strategic positioning.
  • Perform competitive analysis of VMIL within its existing and potential markets to inform strategy.
  • Stay abreast of emerging methods for strategy development, implementation and cascading and introduce these methods to improve the process.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure VMIL is kept abreast of new developments in the industry.
  • Lead and manage the performance of VMIL using the Balanced Scorecard Methodology and tracking of VMIL’s Strategic Initiatives.
  • Assist with communicating the strategy across the organisation and monitoring the execution of the strategy.
  • Lead the preparation and drive the execution of VMIL’s Strategic Plan in line with VM Group.
  • Liaise with the Group Strategy team to ensure VMIL’s strategy aligns with the Group.
  • Prepare breakdown of Medium-Term Strategic Plan into one (1) year rolling Business Plans.
  • Guide the cascading of the Company Strategic and Business Plans to the Unit Business Plans.
  • Ensure alignment of the units with the company’s objectives.
  • Support the assessment of any projects and initiatives and its projected financial impact, outcomes, and risks.
  • Conduct complex analysis and research to develop written reports and presentations of business solutions for senior executives.
  • Partner with Senior Leadership to define the business strategy and create and execute corresponding business plans and initiative.
  • Lead the preparation of strategic reports and presentations for VMIL Board and other internal parties.
  • Implement measures/tools to enhance management reporting and efficiency.
  • Communicate performance, business strategies and rationales to key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and support the internal stakeholders to plan, direct, and monitor the execution and progress of the strategic business objectives for VMIL.
  • Partner with management to interpret and prioritize strategic business needs.
