Assistant HR Manager (Kingston)

Amber Group Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled Assistant Human Resource Manager to lead and manage the functions of their HR department. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with experience in recruitment, benefits administration, performance management, employee relations, and policy development. This individual will be responsible for cultivating a high-performance culture and ensuring alignment between HR initiatives and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recommend, develop, and update human resource policies, procedures, and strategies
  • Oversee the full recruitment process, from sourcing candidates to onboarding and contract issuance
  • Manage employee benefits, leave management, and ensure compliance with labor laws
  • Coordinate and lead the company’s employee orientation and training programs
  • Design and implement employee engagement initiatives, including recognition programs and wellness programs
  • Lead the performance management system, including performance appraisals, individual development plans (IDPs), and performance improvement plans (PIPs)
  • Collaborate with line managers to establish and implement employee training programs to close performance gaps
  • Provide guidance on progressive discipline, conduct disciplinary hearings when necessary, and recommend terminations
  • Analyze exit interviews and recommend improvements to employee retention strategies
  • Develop and administer employee opinion surveys to gauge employee satisfaction and engagement
  • Liaise with external vendors for services such as temporary staffing and relocation services
  • Maintain accurate employee records, generate reports using the Balanced Scorecard, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements
  • Foster professional and technical growth by attending workshops, networking, and participating in professional organizations

Required Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or a related field
  • Professional HR certification (preferred but not required)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in progressively responsible HR roles
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican Labor Laws and HR best practices
  • Proven ability to analyze, interpret, and explain employment regulations
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent organizational, record-keeping, and conflict management skills
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR management software
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
