The Assistant Food and Beverage Director will support the Food and Beverage Director in overseeing the administration of the Division. Key responsibilities include forecasting, budgeting, and training.

Position Responsibilities/ Essential Functions

  • Assist the Food & Beverage Director in the short and long-term planning and management of Food and Beverage operations.
  • Develop and recommend budgets, marketing plans, and objectives, and manage within approved guidelines.
  • Implement and maintain Food and Beverage sales and marketing programs.
  • Direct and oversee the professional development of employees within the department.
  • Support the implementation of payroll, reports, forecasts, inventory, and budget management for Food and Beverage operations.
  • Coordinate Food and Beverage operations with other hotel departments to ensure seamless guest service.
  • Resolve customer complaints appropriately to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and quality.
  • Implement procedures to enhance guest and colleague satisfaction.
  • Exercise quality control over both food and beverage offerings.
  • Ensure compliance with Hyatt service standards and Department of Health regulations through daily walk-throughs.
  • Coach and counsel employees to reflect Hyatt's service standards and procedures.
  • Manage and train staff in all technical and non-technical aspects of their roles, including adherence to Club standards of quality and service.
  • Assist management in controlling costs for all Food and Beverage outlets by monitoring purchasing, maintaining effective profit and loss controls, and aligning labor costs with demand patterns and budgets. 
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure appropriate staffing levels for events and smooth execution of assigned responsibilities.
  • Attend pre-shift meetings before events to understand function details, including hotel and guest expectations.
  • Mentor, motivate, and guide staff to ensure success and resolve any on-the-job issues.
  • Evaluate performance, provide feedback, and carry out disciplinary actions as needed, in accordance with Hyatt policies and applicable laws

Assistant Food and Beverage Director Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of six (6) years of progressive hotel experience, with at least three (3) years in a Management role.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Hospitality/Tourism Management or a relevant field; a combination of education and experience may be considered if minimum requirements are not met.
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced data analysis skills to drive decision-making and optimize operations.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking with the ability to anticipate future trends and challenges.
  • Proven track record of introducing innovative solutions and creative approaches to improve efficiency and guest satisfaction.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire, influence, and motivate diverse teams.
  • Advanced conflict resolution and negotiation skills, maintaining harmony and productivity within the team.
  • Proficiency in managing complex projects, ensuring desired outcomes within scope, time, and budget.
  • High adaptability to rapidly changing environments and requirements, demonstrating flexibility and resilience.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, with the ability to understand and manage emotions, and handle interpersonal relationships with empathy and insight.
