Applications Analyst

JOB PURPOSE

The jobholder supports, develops, installs, maintains, and modifies business and technical applications, as well as integrated programs for standard and special projects which meet user requirements for high-performance computing. The position provides support to maintain a stable IT&S application system for the company.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Uses established fact-finding procedures, knowledge of pertinent processes and procedures, and familiarity with related programming practices, software, and hardware to provide required analysis of user problems.
  2. Participates in the analysis of user project proposals; identifies potential problem areas, and recommends optimum approaches for project path, utilizing specific areas of scientific/technical expertise.
  3. Completes, through code/algorithm development and other means, the development of tools and interfaces between application and debugging programs.
  4. Ensures the specification, design and development of business solutions to satisfy end-user requirements.
  5. Provides system-level support for computer software and classroom computer equipment used to conduct workshops.
  6. Participates in and/or completes the development of training materials and assists in conducting training and workshops in the use of systems.
  7. Provides occasional functional supervision over technical staff, external consultants and cross-functional teams on specific assignments, as allocated.
  8. Communicates application problems and issues to key stakeholders, including management, development teams, end-users, and unit leaders.
  9. Maintains and enhances the performance of all new and existing software and applications across the organization in order to ensure availability and reliability.
  10. Provides support for the testing of new and existing software applications under development or consideration for purchase.
  11. Conducts research into software application products and services in support of development and purchasing efforts.
  12. Records, tracks, and documents the problem-solving process, including successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken, through to final resolution.
  13. Reviews and edits requirements, specifications, business processes and recommendations related to proposed solutions.
  14. Tracks and maintains service level agreements on application availability, incident resolution and service requests.
  15. Supports data gathering and analysis for internal and external audits. 
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • A first degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Management Information Systems from a recognised, accredited institution and
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ IT&S application administration experience

OR

  • An Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Management Information Systems or a related discipline from a recognised, accredited institution and
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ IT&S application administration experience.
  • Experience in the use of report development tools for new development and modifications to existing reports.
  • Knowledge of detailed and complex business functions, processes and rules associated with the supported applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office software, Microsoft Project.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Computerized Maintenance Maintenance Systems (CMMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Content and Document Management Systems and any other Plant and Business Applications as applicable to the operations of the company.
  • Technical proficiency in Oracle, Maximo and Microsoft SharePoint would be considered an asset.
