The Accounts Payable Clerk supports the Assistant Financial Controller in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance Department.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

 

  1. Process and maintain accounts payable and prepare payments either online or by cheque, draft or wire transfer and facilitate approval process, and resolve vendor and internal customer inquiries related to accounts payable.
  2. Posting of invoices into the accounting systems.
  3. Perform account reconciliations and ledger updates in the accounting systems.
  4. Review all bills and invoices to ensure they are properly approved according to SOX controls.
  5. Filing of all invoices and accounts payable documents.
  6. Assist in preparation of reports for internal or external auditors, staff and managers.
  7. Assist in sample testing by both internal and external auditors.
  8. Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time by the Financial Controller.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail, with strong organizational and time management skills
  • PC knowledge/ Window based programs and advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, theory and practices.
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems and financial support systems

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associates Degree or Certificate in Accounting or Business or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Or minimum 5 years’ experience in an accounts payable or accounting role.
  • Experience in preparing schedules for and participation of an annual external audit would be a definite asset.
  • Experience with Netsuite accounting software would be a definite asset.
  • Must be proficient with the MS Office platform.
  • Able to organize work in an efficient manner and work well under stress.

 Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to meet deadlines , especially during month end and year end close periods . The role will include opportunity to work from home on some days based on the discretion of the Assistant Financial Controller.
