Job Description

POSITION:   ACCOUNTING OFFICER

REPORTS TO:       THE FINANCE DIRECTOR/ CEO

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Accounting Officer is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Accounting Department.

The Accounting Officer must be able to apply accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely monthly and annual financial reports and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures

Main Functions and Responsibilities

Management

• Responsible for the day to day functioning of the Accounting Department
• Participates in budget and cash flow preparation
• Attend Management Meetings – Represent the Accounting Department
• Preparation of Monthly Management Reports

Financial Management

• Compile and analyze financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly and annual accounts
• Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
• Make certain all financial reporting deadlines are met
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close processes
• Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures
• Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities
• Develop and maintain financial databases
• Oversee accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and integrity of financial data

Accounting Functions

• Maintain General Ledger
• Maintain Fixed Asset Register
• Oversee Accounts receivables and collections
• Oversee Accounts payables and supplier payments
• Prepare Monthly Bank reconciliations
• Ensure accuracy of all Accounting data entry

Budgeting:

• Compilation of timely Annual Budgets
• Budget reporting – Actual vs Projections with explanations for variances
• Continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities

Taxation

• Ensure compliance with all tax regulations
• Monitor and support taxation requirements for Corporation Tax, VAT, Green Fund and PAYE
• Ensure compliance on all taxation matters
• Assist in and provide information for the preparation of annual tax returns

Auditing

• Prepare for financial audit and coordinate the audit process
• Prepare draft financial statements in accordance with audit requirements
• Provide all stipulated audit schedules
• Manage year end cut off procedures
• Liaise with auditors for timely completion of audit reports

Other

• Update Company’s accounting policies and procedures
• Required to provide training to the Accounting staff and any other staff, as is necessary, when implementing and/or changing any procedures or processes within the organization.
• Prepare weekly reports for Management

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• First Degree in Accounting or ACCA level 3
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Senior Accounting Position
• Excellent knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, power point
• Excellent knowledge and experience with Accounting software
• Strong analytical and time management skills
• An acceptable combination of experience and academic qualifications would also be considered.
