ACCOUNTING CLERK

A leading company linked to the construction industry and listed on the Junior Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange seeks an Accounting Clerk. The company is in the Corporate Area.

 

Job summary

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Accounting Clerk’s main responsibilities are to ensure the timely completion and maintenance of accounting transactions entered into the accounting system and ensuring accuracy in financial documentation.  The position is essential to the support and smooth operations of the Accounts Department.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide administrative and clerical support to the Accounts Department
  • Review and enter suppliers’ invoices in the accounting software to ensure complete andaccurate accounting of assets, liabilities and expenses
  • Assist with the monthly preparation of accounts payables and bank reconciliations
  • Record customer payments and to assist with the reconciliation of their accounts
  • Record weekly payments, based on approved payment reconciliations
  • Email payment notifications to suppliers
  • Reconcile inventory general ledgers with sub-ledgers
  • Participate in monthly stock-taking exercise
  • Prepare foreign costing monthly or as required
  • Assist with annual audits
  • Review, analyse and record weekly petty cash purchases submitted by petty cash custodians to ensure accuracy, appropriate approval and valid company purpose
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Financial Controller or Senior Accountant

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or
  • Presently pursuing accounting qualifications at least ACCA Level 2
  • Over two years’ experience in a similar capacity

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS

  • High levels of professionalism and integrity
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills and attention to details
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of Customer Service
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work independently, as appropriate
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites
  • Knowledge of Adagio accounting software and Sage inventory management or similar software would be an asset
  • Available to work flexible hours
