ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT

(1 YEAR CONTRACT)

Location:  Port of Spain

Salary range: $5,000.00 to $7,000.00

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The incumbent is responsible for assisting members of the accounting team with basic accounting tasks. Duties include reconciling bank records, data entry and generating or collecting payments.

 Key Responsibilities are as follows:

 Accounts Payables

  • Prepares all cheques/online payments as and when required, ensuring that all payables inclusive of statutory payments are made on a timely basis.
  • Enters and updates all payment data into relevant information systems
  • Monitors and updates monthly payables reconciliation.

 Accounts Receivables

  • Keeps an up-to-date record of all payments received and submits to the Assistant Accountant/Accountant.

 Cash Management

  • Maintains Petty Cash records for all branch locations.
  • Updates online accounting systems on a timely basis.
  • Maintains and reconciles Petty Cash allocation for Head Office.
  • Monitors cash reserves and assists in the preparation of monthly cash flow strategies.
  • Reconciles company credit card and bank account statements.
  • Liaises with Bank personnel on statement queries or requests with regards to the Company’s Accounts as necessary.

General Accounting

  • Prepares/monitors deposit vouchers, tax invoices, ensuring that information accurately updated and recorded.
  • Prepares journals for submission to the Assistant Accountant/Accountant as necessary.
  • Assists in preparation for all statutory payments.
  • Carry out and assist in various day-to-day, monthly, quarterly, and year-end finance activities.

 Other

  • Maintain proper filing records for areas of work.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of finance procedures and processes.
  • To perform any other duties as may be required and which will fall within the general ambit of the post.

 

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-Secondary School education in Accounting/Business Administration or ACCA Level 1 completion or equivalent.
  • At least 1-2 years’ work experience in a similar position.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting practices and relevant software programs incl. MS Office Suite.
  • Basic knowledge of administrative practices and procedures, data management methods.
