 A.      JOB FUNCTION

The Accountant is responsible for the management and reporting of financial data of the company and its affiliates.  This detail-oriented professional prepares financial statements, analyzes company’s accounts, and ensures compliance with standard accounting and reporting procedures. The role also manages departmental staff.

 B.      KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Prepare timely monthly financial statements and management reports for the company and its affiliates and supports management by researching and reporting on accounting data.
  2. Ensure accuracy and timely data entry of financial transactions into accounting software and maintain all bookkeeping ledgers.
  3. Develop department plans and budgets and analyze and report on performance against these.
  4. Substantiate financial transactions by reconciling daily sales and expenditures and completing internal audits.
  5. Manage payroll process to ensure accuracy and timely processing.
  6. Manage cash flow, income and expenditure accounts to ensure payables are settled in a timely manner according to maintained payment schedules and ensuring approvals, preparation of payments and completion of payments are done.  
  7. Manage petty cash.
  8. Assist with inventory costings.
  9. Maintain financial security by following internal controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, reporting on and addressing instances of non-compliance, prepare and recommend policies and procedures.
  10. Coordinate year-end financial audit, oversee-related inventory counts, liaise with external auditors.
  11. Support the development and maintenance of a team-centered environment by performing other duties as may be required.

 C.      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • At least Level 2 ACCA.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in similar role with supervisory experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of Peachtree/Sage accounting system.
  • Diploma or higher in Business Administration, or related field considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of retail business operations an asset.
