The Accountant is responsible for working closely with the CFO in managing the financial and regulatory reporting process on a daily and monthly basis as well as for quarterly and annual reporting.

Job Summary:

  • The Accountant is responsible for working closely with the CFO in managing the financial and regulatory reporting process on a daily and monthly basis as well as for quarterly and annual reporting. They are also responsible for working and collaborating with the Central Bank of Trinidad & Tobago in managing the reporting of the bank’s operations and financial position to the CBTT. The accounting for the activities of the FX/Treasury department of the bank will also be part of the Accountant’s responsibilities along with managing Accounting Assistants and oversight of their duties and job functions.

Job Description:

  • Effectively communicate with the FX/Treasury department to ensure that its operations are accurately and appropriately accounted for.
  • To work closely with FX traders to ensure that all trades are released within the stipulated timeframe and resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Responsible for the Verification of wire transfers to the instruction’s letters.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all foreign trade journals are accurately accounted for on the
    system.
  • To ensure and accurate and complete close of Fixed Deposits sub ledger.
  • To update all Fixed Deposits schedules on a timely basis.
  • To meet Central Bank deadline in terms of reporting the Foreign Position of the Bank.
  • Responsible for preparing Client monies reconciliation and revaluing client monies on a monthly
    basis.
  • Responsible for Intercompany management for TATILS.
  • Accurately and adequately review journals, payment vouchers, reconciliations and other reports
    and tasks performed by Accounting Assistants.
  • Responsibility for the accurate maintenance of designated General Ledger accounts, including
    timely and regular reconciliations and analyses.
  • To manage the accurate and complete close of sub ledgers.
  • Assist the CFO in managing the year end audit process and internal audit reviews.
  • Assist the CFO and other accountants with the financial reporting process on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Direction, supervision and performance management of Accounting Assistants.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years accounting experience (2 years supervisory experience) in either an audit practice or a financial services company.
  • ACCA qualified or actively pursuing the Professional Module of ACCA (or equivalent professional
  • qualification).
  • Familiarity with accounting standards relevant to the financial services sector (IAS17, IFRS9,
    IAS18, IFRS7 in particular).
  • A working knowledge and ability to work with Microsoft Office or similar packages.
  • Familiarity with the basic functionalities of an accounting software package.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and foster team spirit.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrable leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Experience in preparing CBTT reports and working knowledge of the CBTT reporting framework
  • and requirements.
  • Experience in preparing IFRS Financial Statement (Consolidated Financial Statements would be
    an asset).
  • Attention to critical analysis and detail.
  • Demonstrable ability to form and foster positive working relationships.
