As the AVP - Regional Risk Management, you will also be tasked with building a risk and compliance culture and supporting the Board, relevant risk committees, and the Sygnus Capital Limited business units in understanding, owning and tracking the relevant risks of their units.

Assistant Vice President – Regional Risk Management

Overview:

The AVP – Regional Risk Management (“RRM”) is responsible for integrally supporting the Head of Risk Management (“HOR”) in the ongoing development and maintenance of the risk management framework, polices, procedures, and capabilities for Sygnus Capital Limited which includes managed funds and related entities (together “Sygnus Group”).

The RMM is expected to act as the designate or alternative to the Head of Risk when assigned.  In this critical supporting role, the RMM will focus on risk initiatives and risk ‘business as usual activities’ related to the Group’s private credit and real estate investment funds. The group wide responsibilities will be for internal audit extending to the maintenance of standard operating procedures and risk registers, information security operationalization, and business continuity planning & operationalization.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Risk in ensuring the Risk Management Framework for Financial Risk, Operational Risk, and Enterprise Risk for the Group is fit for purpose and embed across the organization.
  • As part of Risk Management leadership, build a strong risk culture in the organization through implementing tools, training programs and active coaching across the organization.
  • Support the HOR to conduct, identify and provide monthly and quarterly reports to the CEO, the executive Team and the Board on key risks and emerging risks arising from the business units or through strategic risk assessments, primarily through the Risk Management High Risk Report.
  • Work closing with IM (Investment Management) Team to prepare/present Monthly/Quarterly Risk Management Reports on Portfolio Companies for private credit and real estate investments.
  • Review/develop risk policies as needed by the business with focus on information security, business continuity and transfer pricing policies.
  • Act as alternate to the Head of Risk to Participate/Chair risk management meetings at the senior management, executive and board level.
  • Work closely with external consultants, regulators and the Compliance Unit to manage the outsourced internal audit function, and conduct the preparation works required for an in-house managed internal audit program.
  • Other responsibilities that will include but are not limited to:
    • Providing strong support to the ongoing operationalization of the Sygnus Group Enterprise Risk Management Policy.
    • Providing strong support to the management, maintenance and accuracy of Moody's Credit Lens and other substantial risk systems or technology utilized by Sygnus Group.
    • Providing strong oversight on market risk management, and assessments of risk adjusted returns on capital for investments for private credit and real estate funds.
    • Exhibiting an ability to listen, negotiate and communicate goals and expectations.
    • Providing regular feedback to guide employees in the management of their performance.
    • Identifying training and development opportunities that are consistent with individual career objectives and the Group’s business needs.
    • Contributes to the overall success of Sygnus by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Risk.

  • Provide ongoing feedback to guide employees in the management of their performance.
  • Identify training and development opportunities that are consistent with individual career objectives and the Group’s business needs.

Relevant Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or quantitative areas
  • Relevant professional certification for example CFA, FRM, CRM, FMVA would be an asset. 
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in risk management, corporate banking, investment banking preferably within the financial services sector.        
  • Experience conducting risk assessments within multiple categories of risks such as financial risk, operational, and enterprise risk. 
  • Good understanding of the alternative investments industry, and the local and business environment and be able to maintain a broad perspective of the long-term strategic objectives of Sygnus.
  • Broad exposure to compliance and regional risk framework. 
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and create appropriate policies, procedures and training materials.
  • Excellent analysis and research skills, including experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment and a high level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Proactive and analytical problem solver with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy when dealing with internal and external contacts and the ability to adapt to a team approach.
  • Demonstrates the principles and values of the Sygnus Group.
