AVIATION SAFETY INSPECTOR — AIRWORTHINESS (AVIONICS)
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, Airworthiness, the incumbent is responsible for :
- Providing regulatory oversight as per the requirements of the Jamaican Civil Aviation Regulations (JCAR), with emphasis on the areas covered by ICAO Annexes 1, 6 and 8 This includes the monitoring and surveillance of all operations in the areas of aircraft maintenance, air operator certification, maintenance organization certification, aircraft servicing, ramp operations and maintenance engineer licensing, for air operators and maintenance organizations in Jamaica and for all Jamaican air operations overseas
- Providing expert guidance to air operators, maintenance organizations, training organizations and maintenance engineers, to assist them in meeting the requirements of the JCAR, in the areas covered by ICAO Annex 1 and 8
- Carrying out and participating in as necessary - audits, base inspections, cabin enroute checks, aerodrome inspections and non-routine inspections, to ensure compliance with the JCAR, as well as conduct, or participate in, incident/accident investigations
- Monitoring of the training programs, manuals, documentation and procedures used by Jamaican air operators in the areas of aircraft maintenance and maintenance training, to ensure compliance with the applicable JCAR
Qualification & Experience:
- Hold an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s Licence (E1/E2), either type-rated or approved on at least two types of aircraft
- Ten (10) years work experience in an aircraft maintenance facility, in an airline or the military, as a technician, or any combination of these roles, with experience in the maintenance and repair of aircraft and power plant electrical systems, instruments, radio communications and navigation systems and autopilot systems of large aircraft (over 5700 kg gross take-off weight) under a continuous airworthiness inspection and maintenance program; or in the provision of maintenance services of the avionics systems for smaller aircraft up to the level of annual checks
- Three (3) years supervisory or managerial experience in aircraft maintenance. This includes such positions as lead mechanic, quality assurance inspector, or duty engineer
- Have no history of enforcement or disciplinary action
KEY TECHNICAL/OCCUPATIONAL COMPETENCIES:
- Working knowledge of the Civil Aviation Regulations in the areas of AME licensing, airworthiness requirements and aircraft registration
KEY NON-TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Sound investigative and analytical skills
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, decision making, planning, organizing & time management skills
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written, including report writing
- Computer literate and able to utilise the Microsoft Office suite effectively
