JOB SUMMARY

 

Support the safe operation of the vessel in a fashion that exceeds the highest standards within the passenger vessel industry. Promote and maintain the utmost integrity and the highest standard of customer service to all guests and crewmembers.  Lead and participate in vessel mooring and unmooring in a safe, efficient manner while ensuring the safety of passengers, crew and vessel.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the Port Captain.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the operation of the vessel within the legal requirements of pertinent regulatory agencies under the supervision of the Mate and within the regulations of the WTS Safety Management System.
  • Monitor safety issues and report hazards to the Mate for correction.
  • Participate in Safety, Seamanship and other training as required.
  • Participate in drills as directed by the Mate.
  • Participate in meetings as requested.
  • Ensure that safety equipment is provided and properly used for all tasks involving physical hazards.
  • Assist under the direction of the Mate, with the safe mooring, docking of the vessel in a variety of weather and water stage conditions.
  • Assist with routine maintenance, painting and clean up as instructed by the Mate.
  • Stay aware of guest service and safety issues and the requirements of the SMS and provide regular and dependable feedback to the Master by way of the Mate.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Be aware of the importance of the permit to operate and how the operations of the vessel are governed by the IMO-HSC and other documents and regulations.
  • Wear the proper uniform and be well groomed at all times.
  • Wear a work vest when participating in the mooring of the vessel or undertaking other exposed duties.
  • Must be able to stand and walk during most if not the entire shift. Job will require routine bending, stretching, crawling, climbing, kneeling and heavy lifting of objects, which weigh over 50 lbs.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to memorize and carry out assignments on the Watch Quarter Station Bill.
  • Know the location of, and be able to operate all safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, fire and bilge pumps, fire hoses, lifejacket lockers, emergency lighting, First Aid supplies and rescue equipment.
  • Know proper lifejacket donning methods.
  • Good hearing and vision is required.
  • Must be capable of working on vessel in all types of weather conditions during day and night hours.
  • Must be able to make independent decisions yet follow orders in an emergency situation.
  • Must submit to USCG required DOT compliant Drug Testing Program.
  • Must comply with the Company’s Policies, Procedures and Safety Manual.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  • STCW II/4 Level 1
  • STCW 95 and Certificate
  • High Speed passenger vessel experience preferred
  • Successful completion of in-house IMO-HSC Type Rating Program
  • Pass approved Drug Test and Background Check
