Technical Operator

The role is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the CHP Plants. The Technical Operator is the primary role that deals with the operation of the CHP plant and attend to issues and/or plant shutdowns while on shift.

Spectra Engineering Solutions Ltd. Onsite Energy Jamaica Limited is currently responsible for the service of five Combined Heat & Power (CHP) Plants. Each plant has natural gas-powered engines with various sub systems such as heat recovery boilers, pumps, heat exchangers etc. The role is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the CHP Plants. The Technical Operator is the primary role that deals with the operation of the CHP plant and attend to issues and/or plant shutdowns while on shift. The Technical Operator assists with the maintenance of the CHP plants as well as planned and unplanned downtime activities.

Core Responsibilities:

• Safely operate and monitor and the combined heat and power plant (CHP) installed by Spectra Engineering Solutions Ltd. Jamaica which include generators and associated equipment.
• Safely assist supervisors and technicians and perform planned and unplanned maintenance under or without supervision on the CHP plant as assigned.
• Safely assist with the execution of major overhauls on the CHP Plant as assigned.
• Safely troubleshoot and resolve faults and issues with the CHP plant and associated equipment.
• Collect data and information as required on engines and other equipment and provide reports as required.
• Complete and send outage reports to plant owners.
• Keep plants clean and tidy. Perform cleaning activities.
• Input maintenance activities, new work orders and complete work orders in the Hippo computer maintenance management system used by Spectra Engineering Solutions Ltd.
• Complete daily logs and do frequent walkabouts of CHP plant to identify potential issues, correct potential issues and escalate issues when necessary.
• Work with service engineer to plan jobs to be carried out.
• Communicate with other team members of the company sites assigned to as required to safely provide; electricity, and/or hot water and/or steam from the CHP plant.
• Perform work on Spectra Engineering Solutions Ltd. projects to execute, monitor and feedback on projects installation.

Experience, Qualifications & Skills

• At least a Diploma  in Engineering, Maintenance Management, or related field, or equivalent experience. 
• Minimum 3 years of experience in maintenance planning, preferably in industrial plants, or related industrial environments.
• Knowledge of maintenance management systems (CMMS), work order processes, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
• Excellent organizational and planning skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals, and P&IDs.
• Maintenance Planning & Scheduling Certification (desired)
• OSHA or equivalent safety certifications (desired)
• Ability to work in industrial plant conditions, including exposure to high temperatures, loud noises, and outdoor environments.
• Occasionally lifting heavy tools or equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces and at heights when required.
• Primarily based in Kingston, with occasional travel to other plant locations as needed.
• This role requires the ability to work flexible hours and weekends, including overtime and on-call responsibilities.
