KPMG in Trinidad and Tobago is seeking to hire a dynamic, results-oriented and highly motivated Senior for its growing Tax Practice. The successful candidate will be involved in providing tax compliance and advisory services to individuals and companies operating in all business sectors. Your role will include executive level client interaction and provide you with exposure to multiple clients; Tax Authority and KPMG Firms across the network on a regular basis.
As a Tax Senior you will be dealing with more complex tax compliance and advisory requests from our clients. You will be supported by the managers and partners of KPMG Caricom in developing your tax skills in a role that will prepare you for the next step in your career to become a Manager.
Responsibilities
- Assist with administrative and practice development matters pertaining to the KPMG Tax Practice.
- To assist in conducting the firm’s business in accordance with the highest professional standards and in conformity with the firm’s technical and administrative rules and procedures.
- Support tax and audit professionals in carrying out a review of the tax provision for inclusion in the financial statements. This includes examining and analysing tax sensitive general ledger accounts, tax returns, other accounting and financial records and documents of an entity or an individual’s business to ensure compliance with established taxation principles and procedures.
- Assist with preparing corporate tax returns, individual tax returns and partnership tax returns along with supporting schedules.
- Liaise with the local tax authorities to address issues such as tax assessments, appeals and interpretation of tax legislations.Liaise with the external auditors where required to obtain supporting information in respect of the individual cases.
- Conduct tax due diligence exercises in relation to GCT, income tax and payroll taxes and draft report on the findings for approval by the Tax Manager and Partner.
- Participate in the audit planning process, including attending audit planning meetings with a view to garner information on the company’s activities and making appropriate tax planning suggestions or securing additional tax engagements.
- Draft tax advice for approval by the Tax Manager/Partner and subsequent issue to clients based on clients’ request for information or based on an advisory engagement.
- Analyze financial statements and reports and suggest business and tax advice and planning for audit and non-audit clients.
- To represent the firm at client’s premises throughout the execution of the various assignments.
- To assist in ensuring that each engagement assigned to him/her is properly planned.To monitor the engagement performance against the job plan and discuss with the Tax Manager whether revisions to the plan are needed as the examination progresses.To accept responsibility for work done on the assignment by the Associates and the time spent on the engagement.
- To maintain contact with the client in order to keep abreast of the progress of the examination and to give the necessary guidance to staff.To resolve problems or questions which arise and when considered necessary to discuss these problems with relevant specialists within the firm, the Tax Manager or Partner.
- Being responsible for informing the Tax Manager on a timely basis of all material issues and problems and obtaining concurrence with his/her conclusions for resolving them.
- To ensure KPMG’s professional standards and procedures are maintained at all times.
- To keep abreast of current developments in the Tax/Accounting profession and to ensure that this knowledge is imparted to the staff through on-the job training.
- Assisting as the need arises with the reviewing of files assigned to associate staff.
- Any other duties as may be required by the Tax department.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree preferably with a major in Accounting, Finance, Law and/or Taxation
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACCA or CPA), Legal Certification or pursuing qualification
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in tax compliance and/or tax advisory services or legal profession
Key Skills
- Excellent Project Management skills;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to adapt to a multi-cultural experience;
- Expertise in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with PowerPoint and Access would be an advantage, and
- Developing and coaching tax associates and interns.
