Job Description – Senior Programmer/Analyst

Reports to: Director of Technology Services

Job Summary:
The Senior Programmer/Analyst is responsible for defining, developing, testing, analyzing, and maintaining software applications to meet business requirements. This role involves writing, coding, testing, and analyzing software programs and applications. Additionally, the Senior Programmer/Analyst researches, designs, documents, and modifies software specifications throughout the production lifecycle, while providing mentorship and guidance to junior team members.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Collaborate with developers, programmers, and designers to conceptualize and develop new software programs and applications.
  • Analyze existing business systems and processes.
  • Define, develop, and document software business requirements, objectives, and deliverables on a project-by-project basis.
  • Contribute to the planning and scoping of software development projects, including scheduling and implementation.
  • Research and identify user needs for internal and external programs.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Conduct research on emerging software products, languages, and standards.
  • Work with vendors to implement new software products or systems and resolve issues.
  • Recommend, schedule, and implement software upgrades and improvements.

Operational Management

  • Collaborate with network administrators, systems analysts, and software engineers to resolve software issues.
  • Consistently write and code software programs according to specifications.
  • Develop scripts to enhance application functionality and performance.
  • Run and monitor performance tests, troubleshoot errors, and implement improvements.
  • Analyze test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.
  • Generate reports and statistics on the status of the programming process.
  • Develop user manuals and guidelines.
  • Train end users on new or modified programs and install software as required.
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members and assist in their development.

Position Requirements:

Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong understanding of coding methods and best practices.
  • Experience gathering user insights and addressing usability issues.
  • Hands-on experience with test case development and execution.
  • Knowledge of data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Adaptable and open to learning new technologies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environments.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

Formal Education & Experience

  • College diploma or university degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 4 years of equivalent work experience (Associate degree and 6 years of related experience, or 10 years related experience also acceptable).
