The Senior Accounting Technician plays a key role in supporting daily treasury operations, ensuring accurate financial records, managing cash flow, and assisting with financial reporting and analysis. This supervisory position provides guidance and training to junior technicians, contributes to developing and implementing controls for efficient financial processes, and supports forecasting, budgeting, and decision-making through comprehensive reports and analysis. The role also promotes knowledge sharing and coordination across divisions within the organization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and report daily bank balances for all accounts, including USD balances available for payments.
Support daily cash management by accurately recording cash transactions and updating the foreign exchange tracker.
Monitor USD requirements daily, collaborating with departments to optimize cash flow operations.
Coordinate and execute authorized daily transactions and fund transfers between the company’s bank accounts.
Assist with the reconciliation of specific general ledger accounts, including bank and cash clearing accounts.
Reconcile credit card statements, ensuring expenses are accurately posted to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
Oversee the petty cash system, maintaining a detailed register that reconciles to the general ledger, including a log for USD receipts and disbursements.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies between company records and bank statements, collaborating with internal departments or banks as necessary.
Liaise with banks to manage account access controls and maintain an up-to-date signatory authority database.
Assist in preparing cash flow forecasts to identify potential shortfalls or surpluses.
Coordinate banking arrangements, including purchase of foreign currency, borrowing facilities, custom Bonds, performance bond and cheque guarantees.
Review and verify accounting journal entries for bank transactions on a daily basis.
Manage the cashier function, ensuring adequate coverage at all locations and performing cash vault duties when required.
Ensure the accurate posting of daily van sales and cashier balancing reports, addressing queries promptly.
Assist in calculating shrinkages and overages in cash handling.
Enforce cash handling procedures, including securing cash, balancing cash at the close of business, and facilitating cash pickups.
Provide support for internal and external audits by supplying necessary documentation and information.
Offer analytical and technical assistance to Shared Services team members and respond to reporting queries from associates.
Comply with all company policies and procedures, including those related to health, safety, security, and environmental standards.
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor.
Requirements
ACCA Level 2
At least three years work experience in the accounting field
1 year supervisor experience
Computer Literate – Working knowledge of MS Office and a computerized financial application.
