The Senior Accounting Officer is responsible for performing the day to day accounting functions of the Company, its subsidiaries, and the maintenance accounts that it manages.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

 Education

  • Professional Accounting designation (ACCA Level 2 or CPA preferred) and Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or similar field of study. 

Experience

  • A minimum Three years of experience as a Senior Accounting Officer.  Experience with project accounting and previous work in real estate environment would be considered favorably.

 Competencies

 The Senior Accounting Officer should have demonstrated good decision making skills with ability to work independently while adhering to strict reporting requirements. The incumbent should have good mathematical and reasoning skills and able to work well with others utilizing strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

 Proficiency in the use of system based general ledger and consolidation tools is highly desired.  Proficiency in MS Office suite of products is a requirement.

Generic competencies required:

  1. Detail oriented; strong organizational skills; team player who is flexible & motivated.
  2. Excellent knowledge of accounting software
  3. Ability to work under pressure on multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  4. Excellent project management and communication skills.
  5. Working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  6. The ability to develop operating procedures for routine transactions.

   These skills are required to:

  •  Create, review, and maintain procedures for monitoring major accounts in a manner that is auditable.
  • Investigate and take appropriate actions in respect of any discrepancies in account reconciliations.
  • Analyze contractual documents and ensure transactions are being accounted for in accordance with their terms. 
  • Develop and generate reports and analyses for various stakeholders.

INITIATIVE/INGENUITY

 Creative and innovative approaches are needed to:

  • Develop SOPs to ensure the timely and accurate processing of accounts transactions.
  • Maintain an auditable archive system to safeguard the accounting records.
  • Achieve continuous improvements through constant review of the functions, processes, and technology applied in executing the job.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

 The position holder may be required to:

  • Work outside of stipulated work hours as the need arises
  • Travel to, or work from different locations where the company operates 

KEY REPSONSIBILITIES

 Management and Operational

  1. Routine accounting & reporting functions for KPL and related parties

-        Prepare and data-enter journal entries supported by appropriate documentation for all financial transactions.

-        Generate monthly/quarterly/annual reports including trial balance, balance sheet, income statement, cash flow and other routine reports.

-        Analyze the financial reports and prepare monthly variance analysis

 2. Prepare monthly reconciliations to support accounting records

-        Perform bank, accounts payable and related party account reconciliations, and maintain fixed asset register

-        Prepare analyses and supporting schedules for major G/L accounts

-        Analyze project development expenditure and classify expenditure to appropriate class of accounts.

 3. Perform accounts payable functions

-        Process purchase orders and supplier invoices in accordance with SOP

-        Schedule routine payments and liaise with suppliers to ensure timely payment of invoices.

-        Perform AP sub-ledger reconciliations with supplier statements

 4. Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

-        Document SOP for routine transaction into a manual and keep up-to -date

-        Document and maintain up to date accounting policies for the company as approved by Management

-        Support the operation & development of accounting systems & procedures

 5. Support the Audit and Financial Review exercises on quarterly and annual basis.

 6. Prepare and submit monthly and annual tax filings to local tax authorities

 7. Maintain a systematic filing system for all relevant accounting records

 

Other functions
  • Assist with the cash flow forecasts and budget development processes for the Companies and maintenance accounts.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis of actual performance.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

REPORTS TO:         Financial Controller

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS/ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Personal and portfolio objectives are continuously met.
  • Comprehensive and accurate financial reports are prepared and submitted within agreed timeframe. Significant improvement in the reporting timelines
  • Effective communication of company performance to management.
  • Improvement of internal controls and end-to-end standard operating procedures for accounts payable and general accounting systems.
  • Personal and professional conduct is in keeping with professional and organizational standards.
