To perform all tasks required for the efficient sale of company products including automotive, industrial, marine, and motorcycle batteries directly from the assigned company Sales Van. The duties include identifying new sales opportunities and meeting sales targets.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve existing customers by visiting on a regular basis, checking their stock, replenshing as necessary and meeting customer needs.
  • Visit potential customers, evaluate their needs, provide solutions, and add them to our existing customer network.
  • Ensure all documentation including invoices, returns, claims, transfers, and other documentation is properly signed by all parties.
  • Manage customers' transactions, payments and outstanding accounts to ensure smooth transaction of business.
  • Examine customer battery stock to ensure that proper stock rotation practices are being followed, that is First In First Out (FIFO). Return any stock which may be three months old or more so that these can be recharged and sold through our Retail Division.
  • Generate cash and credit invoices for all sales being made out of the Sales Vans.
  • Load stock into the Sales Van assigned to you and off-load such stock at the customer’s premises as required by the customer.
  • Replenish stock on the Sales Van on a regular basis and ensure that it suits the needs of the customers on route to maximize sales and prevent loss of sales due to inventory.
  • Keep records of stock transferred to and from our warehouses into the Sales Van and records of Sales made from the Van so that all products loaded onto the van can be accounted for at all times.
  • Receive incoming calls directed to Division Sales and assist with queries and questions related to the Company and its products.
  • Recommend changes in products, service, and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments.
  • Collect cash and cheques for COD and Credit invoices due to the Company and generate payments and receipts for all collections.
  • Reconcile customer payments and remit collections to a Company Cashier or Company bank account on a daily basis.
  • Complete the Salesman’s Daily Report indicating the Customers and Potential Customers visited with a brief indication of the topics discussed and sales potential. This Report must be handed in to your Manager on a daily basis.
  • Deliver urgent orders where possible.
  • Monitor competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, and merchandising techniques.
  • Resolve customer complaints by investigating problems, developing solutions, preparing reports, and making recommendations to management.
  • Provide technical knowledge about the products to customers.
  • Refer customers to your supervisor where their needs extend beyond your ability to deliver the highest quality of service.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Check the tray provided for you each morning to ensure that you receive any messages that may have been left for you on the previous day.
  • Go the "extra mile" to meet sales quota and facilitate future sales.
  • Maintain the Sales Van assigned to you and ensure that routine services are performed, the vehicle is clean and presentable at all times, and that you drive courteously and in observance of all traffic regulations to portray a proper image of the Company.
  • Ensure that all safety rules and regulations are observed while performing duties.
  • Report to your Manager or Supervisor:
    1. Any issues that may affect your performance in the completion of your duties.
    2. Any issues that may affect the company in achieving its goals and objectives.
    3. Any issues which may compromise health and safety.
  • Any other task which your Supervisor or Manager may assign to you from time to time in order to discharge the purpose of the job.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft office applications.
  • Cool-tempered and able to handle rejection
  • Self-confident and motivated to drive sales.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to prospect, identify customer needs, and provide solutions.
  • Knowledge of the automotive industry is an asset.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5 CXC or GCE passes, including Mathematics and English.
  • 3 years of sales experience.
  • Sales Training is an asset
  • Vocational training in automotive maintenance, mechanics, or electrical is an asset.

Special Requirements

  • Willing to work overtime on holidays or weekends, whenever necessary
  • Always on call to assist clients.
