Research Technician

Position: Research Technician (Full-time)

 

About St. Kitts Biomedical Research Foundation

The St. Kitts Biomedical Research Foundation (SKBRF) is a research organization devoted to advancing the development of therapies for human diseases and the application of related models of disease pathophysiology to drug and device evaluation.  SKBRF applies extensive expertise in many areas of therapeutic and diagnostic research for which clinically relevant models are feasible, with a focus on ophthalmic, central nervous system and metabolic research, as well as pharmacokinetic and safety studies.

Job Summary

The Research Technician performs research procedures, assisting the Study Directors to execute routine research activities by following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and study protocols.  The Research Technician functions as a study participant on any given study, conducting technical and documentation procedures and quality control to ensure scientific and operational steps defined within the study protocol are followed and recorded.

 

Key Accountabilities of the Role

  1. Protocol Implementation: Perform routine research tasks per study protocol and SOPs.
  2. Sampling: Collect, process, and analyze biological samples, including blood and tissues.
  3. Documentation: Record data, document procedure execution and perform quality control of documentation.
  4. Data Management: Tabulate study data for the Study Director as assigned by the Team Lead and/or Director of Research Operations.
  5. Equipment Maintenance: Perform and document routine equipment maintenance.
  6. Animal Monitoring: Observes animals for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior; notifying veterinarians or Study Director as warranted.
  7. Animal Care: Feed, fast, dose, and treatment animals.
  8. Animal Transport: Transport animals to/from research locations and enclosures.
  9. Workspace Maintenance: Cleaning and maintain research spaces and animal procedure and housing environments as required.
  10. Serve in a Quality Support (QS) role or as a Project Lead (PL)

 

 

 

Preferred Skills of Successful Candidate

 

  1. Education level
  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree with 1 year experience or 2 years relevant experience.
  1. Experience
  • 1 - 4 years relevant experience (e.g., research assistant or similar)
  1. Specific competencies
  • Basic laboratory techniques, including proficiency in aseptic techniques, pipetting, use of scales and balances, significant figures, and good laboratory practice (GLP) documentation procedures.
  • Computer literacy skills: Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Attention to detail to ensure data and time/date recording accuracy.
  • Teamwork and clear, efficient, and timely communicating.
  • Critical thinking to identify problems and contribute to appropriate conclusions and solutions.

  • No international travel is expected with this position.
