Under the direct supervision of the Proofreader, the Proofreading Assistant will provide aid to the Proofreader with the ongoing task of proofreading the new pages generated (digitally) to enable the continual updating of the official (loose-leaf) page.
Key Outputs:
• Active and proficient participation in organized proofreading sessions for the new/updated Revised Pages of the Laws of Jamaica (Statutes and Subsidiary Legislation);
• Assistance with administrative tasks related to the production/confirmation of the new/updated Revised Pages that have been proofread;
• Assistance with administrative tasks related to the production/confirmation of the supplemental documents for the new/updated Revised Pages;
• Documents prepared for sessions thoroughly checked and researched
• Assistance with the review/verification of new/updated Revised Pages pending finalization of same
Key Responsibility Areas
• Assist with the proofreading of the computerized pages of revised Statutes, and other related documents;
• Assist with the proofreading of the computerized pages of revised Subsidiary Legislation;
• Assist with the proofreading of the computerized pages of other documents attendant to the Law Revision process (i.e. Supplemental documents);
• Assist with the retrieval, review and organization of proofread pages;
• Checks documents to be read ahead of sessions to ensure accuracy
• Goes through prepared documents to be read to ensure all amendments are inserted
• Assist with the scanning and secure storage of the proofread pages
• Conduct extensive legal research for information to confirm the accuracy of adjustments and references made during the revision exercise
• Assist with the maintaining of pertinent records and/or tracking documents related to proofreading activities;
• Assist with any other activities necessary to aid in, and track, the progression of the proofreading component, and the wider Law Revision process.
Minimum Education and Experience Required
• An Associate Degree or Diploma in Paralegal Studies, Business Administration, Administrative Management, Language Arts, Education, Media and Communication or a related field in the Social Sciences or Humanities from a recognised post-secondary educational/training institution.
• Minimum of two years experience in the legal support field with experience in proofreading documents/quality control services
