Programmer Analyst 

Based in Kingston

Reporting to the Systems Development Manager, the incumbent is required to interface with users to ascertain their needs and clarify the intent of a system. He/she is responsible to code programs, create code libraries, run tests to determine software defects and make beneficial adjustments to existing software programs to maximize their effectiveness. The programmer Analyst is also responsible for implementing cybersecurity measures to protect company information through sound coding and ISO security standards.

OTHER Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing computer programs by determining the logical sequence of the instructions and coding the instructions in a programming language.
  • Updating and modifying the code for existing applications.
  • Confering with user departments and Senior Programmer Analyst to resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements and the inclusion of internal checks and controls.
  • Testing and de-bugging programs by developing sample data to verify that the outputs are correct and error free.
  • Assisting with systems design by contributing to specifications of programs to be developed within the organization.
  • Analysing, reviewing and rewriting programmes to increase operating efficiency or to adapt program to new requirements.
  • Developing user manuals and related training material for users.
  • Recording problem solving procedures to promote continuity, and to advise the relevant Stakeholders of changes in the routine.
  • Establish data relationships and data entities for logigical database designs.
  • Designing and developing mobile and web applications using languages such as JavaScript, HTML,SQL, and CSS.
  • Writing simple Unix scripts to check the application and systems logs from log files.
  • Upgrading applications to improve stability and security.
  • Producing auditing and verification reports using SQL PLUS, and PL/SQL from background Oracle tables in a relational database structure.
  • Editing and debugging PL/SQL statements.
  • Developing applications within the NET framework.
  • Ensuring application codes and routines are clearly documented for future reference.
  • Analyzing and coding back-end systems integrations.
  • Introducing methodologies and best practices in software devolopment.

Ideally, the successful applicant should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a similar field;
  • A minimum of three (3) or more years’ experience in Programming;
  • Two (2) or more years in Application Development;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving ability.
