Position Summary

The Process Plant Operator safely starts-up/shuts down the plant(s) at Methanex Trinidad in the field ensuring the safe and reliable operations within the prescribed guidelines of the equipment.  Emphasis is placed on the field areas of the plant(s) and developing as a DCS support on the plant(s).

Responsibilities

• Be aware and follow safety rules and procedures.
• Observes highest safety standards/awareness and environmental protection through risk reduction and minimizing incident rate.
• Investigates abnormal conditions, troubleshoots and executes corrective action.
• Functions as a member of the Emergency Crew.
• Controls, operates and monitors plant(s) within approved operating parameters to meet production at a minimum cost, ensuring environmental and safety specifications are met.  
• Responds to plant emergencies when required.
• Conducts basic laboratory water and methanol analysis on samples taken in the assigned field areas.
• Undertakes quality control tasks from sampling, analyses results and takes corrective actions for all plant areas.
• Performs ship loading operations at the piers.
• Authorizes work permits as defined by the Work Safety Control System (WSCS).
• Functions as Issuing, Area or Performing Authority under the WSCS.
• Constantly monitors plant equipment by recording daily plant readings, weekly surveys and checklist.
• Carries out preliminary assessment of abnormal plant conditions and corrective actions.
• Safely hands over critical and non-critical equipment for maintenance in order to maintain a high on-stream factor and minimize operating costs.
• Develops good working knowledge of plant, control loops and the design intent of plant equipment.
• Mentors junior Operators through different areas of the plant, start-up/shut-down procedures, training manuals etc.
• Reviews or revises operating procedures, checklists and work instructions e.g. pre-start, start-up, shut down, HID’s.
• Loads chemicals for plant usage and operating and monitoring assigned areas of the plant.

Qualifications

• Five (5) CSEC O’Level passes including Maths, English and Chemistry AND
• PPO/MET/EEET Diploma or Two (2) CAPE A’Level passes including Chemistry.

Experience

• Two to Five (2-5) years operating experience with increasing levels of responsibility
