As a Private Equity and M&A Analyst, you will assist the AVP in executing deals from origination to portfolio management, performing financial modeling and valuations while supporting strategies to improve portfolio companies.

Private Equity and Mergers & Acquisitions Analyst

Overview:

As a Private Equity and M&A Analyst, you will work closely with the AVP for Private Equity and M&A to execute the firm's Private Equity investment strategy and M&A advisory to clients. You will be engaged in the entire deal process from origination and due diligence through deal structuring and post-investment portfolio management. From the pipeline of opportunities, you are expected to· perform extensive financial modelling including sensitivity analysis and valuation to support potential investment opportunities.

He/she will work closely with the AVP for Private Equity and M&A to develop strategies for specific portfolio companies to increase revenue, improve operations, strengthen financial controls, and increase shareholder value. The analyst will be required to always deliver, at all times, Sygnus Capital's brand promise to be best in class in customer service through innovation, independence and integrity. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and execute the underwriting and analysis of various alternative investments opportunities
  • Develop and review various types of financial models to support debt, mezzanine, and preferred equity structures for Alternative Investments
  • Carry out a comprehensive analysis of companies and projects to determine suitability for investment and make recommendations.
  • Assist with the annual review process for existing investments in the various alternative investments portfolios
  • Lead and present transactions to different committees for approval
  • Provide support including analytical, market research and analysis on the execution of capital markets transactions
  • Conduct preparation and review of materials used in the alternative financing process including the collection of KYC/AML data
  • Develop relationships with new and existing clients, in order to expand business
  • Perform due diligence, research, analysis, and documentation of live transactions
  • Review legal documentation in relation to transactions to ensure successful completion
  • Assist with the origination, structuring and syndications of investment banking and alternative investments products and solutions
  • Work closely with team members of Private Equity and Mergers and Acquisitions, Investment Banking, Investment Management, Real Estate and other areas to ensure the successful execution of transactions
  • Travel required–approximately 5-10 trips per year 
  • Collaborate on special projects as assigned.

Relevant Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Actuarial Sciences
  • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Investment or a related field preferred
  • CFA Charter Holder or CFA Level 2 will be a plus
  • Two (2) or more years of professional experience in Investment Banking or Corporate Finance
  • Previous transaction experience in Mergers and Acquisitions
  • Sound knowledge of mergers and acquisitions, accounting, corporate finance concepts and financial statement analysis
  • Extensive knowledge in financial valuation, business strategy, and client communication skills, to perform their job successfully
  • Extensive level of quantitative knowledge and skills, covering investment research, investment analysis, valuation techniques and financial modeling
  • High level of competence in the use of technology including cloud-based software, online platforms and word processing, spreadsheets and presentation softwares.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality analyses and reports to meet tight and inflexible timelines while maintaining high accuracy levels.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, professional judgment and diplomacy when dealing with internal and external contacts.
