PHARMACIST

 JOB SUMMARY:

The incumbent is responsible for preparing medication by reviewing and interpreting physicians’ orders, detecting therapeutic incompatibilities and dispenses medication by compounding, packaging and labelling pharmaceuticals.

 KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Attain 100% accuracy of prescriptions received in terms of their suitability for customers 
  • Provide 100% correct advice regarding drug interactions and drug storage
  • Timely and proper maintenance of Pharmacy files, narcotics and controlled drugs in keeping with regulatory standards
  • Ensure 100% accuracy when dispensing medications prescribed by doctors and dentists by mixing or overseeing their preparation
  • Supervise Pharmacy Technicians and students to ensure all regulatory and legal procedures are obeyed
  • Timely referrals of patients to other health professionals and agencies
  • Attain 100% correct labelling and packaging of pharmaceuticals
  • Keep abreast of changes and advances in drug therapy in order to offer patients the best advice in the treatment of specific conditions

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  •  Reviews prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability and check for proper dosage.
  • Provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosages and proper medication storage.
  • Analyses prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.
  • Maintains pharmaceutical stock and storing and handling it properly.
  • Maintains records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, inventories, narcotics and controlled drugs.
  • Provides specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes asthma, smoking cessation, or high blood pressure.
  • Advises customers on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment and health-care supplies and the use of non-prescription medication.
  • Collaborates with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics.
  • Compounds and dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and dentists, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or oversee these activities.
  • Offers health care service by advising patients how to use devices such as blood pressure or diabetes monitors.
  • Refers patients to other health professionals and agencies when   appropriate.
  • Teaches pharmacy students serving as interns in preparation for their graduation or licensure and supervise pharmacy technicians in carrying out their duties.
  • Packages and label pharmaceuticals
  • Any other duties as may be assigned. 

          QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in pharmacy or its equivalent
  • Two (2) years working experience in a similar capacity
  • Relevant certification

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft suite
  • Proficiency in the use of Pharmpartner Software
  • Excellent knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent Customer Service skills
  • Ability to make timely and evidence-based decisions
  • Strong knowledge of quality controls and monitor systems
  • High level of Confidentiality and adherence to professional standards

  • Excellent ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately
  • Proficient in selecting appropriate ingredients and excipients of the required quality standard for the manufacture and compounding of medicines.

  • Excellent knowledge of the requirements of formulating and compounding medicines

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports pharmacological services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications.
  • Helps health care providers and patients by greeting them in person and by phone, answering questions and requests, and referring inquiries to the pharmacist.
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed medications and supplies, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt, and removing outdated drugs.
  • Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Organizes medications for pharmacist to dispense by reading medication orders and prescriptions, preparing labels, calculating quantities, and assembling intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapies.
  • Maintains records by recording and filing physicians’ orders and prescriptions.
  • Generates revenues by calculating, recording, and issuing charges.
  • Ensures medication availability by delivering medications to patients and departments.
  • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information. 
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
  • Secondary/tertiary education, Certification or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
  • Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification
