Optical Dispensing Supervisor

Primary Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and interpret optical prescriptions in conjunction with clients' vocational visual requirements.
• Provide recommendations to patients on their lenses, lens coatings, frames and styling based on their visual needs, while ensuring that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
• Provide accurate instructions to clients on the how to wear and care for spectacles and other associated optical products.
• Measure customers’ pupillary distance and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices.
• Prepare work orders requests to internal and external labs for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses while liaising with labs to ensure all work orders are delivered timely and advising patients of the delivery changes/associated issues in a timely and professional manner.
• Complete stock movement and sales report daily.
• Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit clients, using optical pliers and hands as well as repair damaged spectacles as required.
• Fit contact lenses and provide advice on their care and use.
• Perform quality assurance checks on lenses and frames on delivery to the patient.
• Build and maintain accurate patient and commercial records.
• Effectively merchandise the Optical store with point of purchase material, relevant literature, and promotional displays of frames/sunglasses. 
• Manage the daily operations of the store and coach Optical staff in the retail aspects of spectacles, contact lenses, and other vision care products.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies Required:

• Must have exceptional knowledge and practical application in the use of optical dispensing tools.
• Excellent interpersonal and patient care skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proven record of attaining and surpassing spectacle dispensing targets.
• Ability to use own initiative and effectively work with retail team in a pseudo clinical environment.

Education and Experience Required:

• Associate Degree/Diploma in Natural Sciences and/or Business Administration
• ABDO and or ABO certified would be an asset
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role
