The Nursing Care Coordinator is charged with administrative responsibility for the management of human and physical resources to facilitate the provision of quality patient and family centered Nursing care.
The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of Nursing Care Coordinator. The Nursing Care Coordinator is charged with administrative responsibility for the management of human and physical resources to facilitate the provision of quality patient and family centered Nursing care during the hours of 4:30pm to 8:30 am and on weekends, and public holidays. The Nursing Care Coordinator is responsible for the initiation of the Disaster Plan during these hours
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):
1) Manages Human Resources to ensure that there is adequate numbers and skill mix of staff to deliver quality care on the nursing units
i) Identifies potential or actual staffing problems and implements/recommends solutions.
ii) Monitors punctuality and attendance, and submits reports to the Nursing Director.
iii) Monitors staff performance and participates in biannual reviews with each employee.
iv) Discuss disciplinary measures concerning staff to the Nursing Manager in writing
v) Supervises staff in delivery of care to assigned patients. Review work assignments, assists with priority setting, and acts as a resource person for less experienced staff. Cultivates and nurtures a supportive and healthy work environment.
vi) Contributes to the orientation of new staff to Nursing Unit
vii) Collaborates with the Nurse Educator and others to meet educational and training needs of staff.
viii)Contribute to nursing audits to identify and monitor performance in the organization.
2) Manages physical resources to ensure the delivery of quality care
i) Report any Environment of Care issues, keeps documentation and reports variances to the maintenance unit and Nursing Director.
ii) Identifies resource requirements and submits proposals to Nursing Director for the budget cycle.
3) Implements strategies to monitor control and improve the Quality of care on the patient care units
i) Documents and reports sentinel events to the Nurse Manager and Nursing Directorand implements strategies to reduce further risk.
ii) Ensures the standard of care delivered meets accepted authority standards and is evidence informed
iii) Monitors patient satisfaction on the nursing units and implements strategies to enhance same.
iv) Assist managers with implementation of strategic plan or their unit.
4) Conducts and participates in administrative activities to ensure the communication of unit activities
i) participates in supervisory and management meetings and patient care committees.
ii) coordinates patient care with other unit and community agencies and collaborates with other services for continuity of care.
iii) demonstrates effective clinical leadership on the nursing units to promote staff and customer satisfaction.
iv) resolves interpersonal/interdepartmental conflicts.
v) utilizes the administrative reports to communicate utilization and care concerns to the nursing director.
vi) Participate in performance improvement projects to improve patient care.
vii) Participate in the assessment and evaluation of nurses skills and competencies Yearly.
5) Ensures the units ability to respond to emergencies and assumes the nursing lead in the Absence of the nursing director or more senior administrator for the initiation of the disaster Plan.
i) Initiates responses to internal and external disasters by activating the relevant Disaster plan.
ii) Responds promptly to national and organizational emergencies by reporting for duty to organize unit activities.
iii) Ensures that each employee is familiar with their roles and responsibility in an Organizational or national disaster.
6) Assumes leadership and managerial roles in the absence of the nursing unit manager or nursing director as delegated.
7) Performs other related duties which are consistent with the role profile and may be required in specialty units. Including support of staff to promote the needs of patients..
Minimum Requirements (Continued):
Educational/Training Requirements:
v Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing
v Certificate/ Diploma in Management including human resource management
Experience:
v Six (6) years nursing experience as a Registered Nurse with clinical experience in the appropriate specialty area.
Licenses/Certifications:
v Unencumbered BVI Nursing License and current registration to practice
v Basic Life Support certification
v Advance Life Support certification
