 JOB TITLE:                         MECHANIC

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • To carry out duties as instructed by Supervisors;
  • Inspect, maintain and repair Heavy Duty Equipment in shop or onsite;
  • Minor alternator and starter repair, resealing hydraulic cylinders and rams and rebuilding engines and brake system;
  • Routine inspection and maintenance including; checking tire pressure, changing; engine oil, transmission oil, hydraulic oil, coolant. Checking and replacing spark plugs, wires and distributor caps or ensuring the reliability of small tools and equipment; Troubleshooting and repairs may include diagnosing and fixing problems onsite or in shop;
  • Inspect Equipment engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues proactively;
  • Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) as per instruction or service maintenance schedule, reporting on underlying defects to prevent future breakdown;
  • Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks);
  • Provide accountability in work having your own set of tools to work;
  • Keep logs on work and issues;
  • Maintain equipment company equipment in a safe manner;

 QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience as Heavy Duty Mechanic
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of Heavy Duty Equipment; namely; 20 Ton Excavator, 10 Ton roller, Backhoes, Front-end Loader.
  • Working knowledge of Heavy Equipment Engines systems, HEUI and MEUI engines, and Diesel Particulate required equipment would be an asset.
  • Ability to handle various tools (e.g. Pneumatic Impact Wrench) and heavy equipment.
  • Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protection against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc.
  • High school diploma is preferred;
  • Certification from a vocational school (JAGAS) or completion of apprenticeship would be an asset.
  • Possess General Proficient Driver’s Licence
