The Librarian/Media Resource Officer is responsible for managing library operations: acquisition and dissemination of information resources to library patrons (staff and students); coordinating development and management of educational media resources in support of the curricula offered. The service of the Librarian/Media Resource Officer also informs and educates students and the institution on the range of information resources available and how they would be helpful.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE:
ü NVQ-J Level 5 Certification or Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science, Library Science or Documentation Management
ü At least three (3) years’ relevant experience in a comparable educational and training service operation. Such experience should ideally be geared from a polytechnic institute, a tertiary education college or a national training agency
KEY COMPETENCIES:

ü Knowledge of classification and cataloguing
ü Sound knowledge of Library Information Management Systems
ü Knowledge of Information Communication Technology
ü Use of audio-visual media technologies
KEY DUTIES:
ü Coordinates the acquisition of information resources
ü Coordinates the acquisition of audio-visual media technology devices
ü Maintains collection of information resources and media technologies
ü Facilitates access to new knowledge
ü Develops Strategic Plans for the Unit
ü Develops Policies and Procedures Manuals
ü Promotes/communicates the inventory of information resources
ü Disseminates information to staff
ü Trains trainees in the use of writing styles
ü Trains clients to use audio-visual media technology equipment
ü Trains library users to access electronic databases
ü Research and selects new knowledge resources
ü Conducts Information Literacy sessions
ü Conducts assessment of information needs among users
ü Conducts performance appraisals of direct reports
ü Conducts research and prepare reports
ü Prepares annual budget
ü Mounts displays and exhibitions
ü Maintains version control systems
ü Prepares for and respond to accreditation and facilities audit
ü Compiles and publishes selected bibliographies
