Position Scope:
The Legal Assistant performs varied and complex legal assignments, both routine and non-routine, requiring evaluation, originality and ingenuity in providing assistance to the Office of the Corporate Secretary in the execution of the corporate secretarial function.
Key Duties And Responsibilities:
Conducts research and analysis on rulings, judgments, precedents, legislation, laws and regulations, both regionally and internationally, to provide support for legal advice and opinions on matters affecting the Corporation
Composes memoranda, correspondence and drafts documents/responses on legal issues, presenting data and documentation in support of legal advice and opinion
Assists in the preparation of legal contracts, deeds, leases and other legal papers
Prepares synopses, abstracts or summaries on legal issues in the preparation of legal contracts as required
Conducts internal investigations where there is legal liability, securing evidence and compiling information
Drafts policies and procedures pertaining to the work of the Corporate secretarial function
Assists the Corporate Secretary in the provision of secretarial service to the Board
Assesses requests filed under the Freedom of Information Act
Prepares documents and information for external parties including outside counsel or investigative and/or enforcement agencies
Provides advice on legal requirements for control and retention of documents throughout the Corporation
Liaises with external stakeholders such as MPU, business partners/associates, external counsel, adverse parties and other governmental agencies
Adheres to health, safety and environmental rules, regulations and guidelines
Performs other related duties that may be required by the job function
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B)
LEC Qualification desirable
