 The Lab Technician is responsible for providing direct technical, and administrative services to support the functions of the Training Department within institutions. The Job Holder deals with the maintenance and operations of computer labs and assist lab users with computer-related issues.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE:

ü  NVQ Level- Two in Information Technology or a related skill

KEY COMPETENCIES:

ü  Excellent ICT skills

ü  Good Problem Solving and Analytical skills

ü  Good Customer Service skills

KEY DUTIES:

ü Coordinates schedule of trainees and instructors for the purpose of maintaining computer lab operations and activities

ü Sets up, checks and issue materials, tools and resources for use in practical sessions

ü Instructs trainees in computer lab technology and software applications (e.g. answers questions, keyboarding, Microsoft Suite & assessments.) for the purpose of enhancing their understanding of lab operations

ü Maintains computer hardware and software applications inventory for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment and/or instructional material in computer lab

ü Maintains computer lab (e.g. instructional materials, appropriate software, sets up materials for daily activities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment and programs to enhance the instructional program

ü Performs routine and preventive maintenance of computer lab and classroom equipment (e.g. dusting, cleaning, virus scanning, creating/clearing Internet bookmarks, defragmenting, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition

ü Prepares documentation (e.g. monthly reports) for the purpose of ensuring that all equipment and requisite laboratory material are kept secure and are to standard

ü Troubleshoots malfunctions of hardware and/or software applications for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer lab operations

ü Assists with instructional sessions as time tabled using established curriculum and relevant/appropriate strategies to enhance the learning process

ü Assists with counselling of trainees and provides guidance/assistance to them as required

ü Assists in maintaining discipline during and after training sessions

ü Develops daily duty rosters and deep cleaning plan in collaboration with facilitator(s) and assist in maintaining a clean and tidy learning environment

ü Assists in maintaining tools, machines/equipment based on the procedures of the institution/organization and submit relevant documents as required

ü Ensures safety regulations and safe practices are complied with, relating to all users

ü Supervises, in collaboration with facilitator, the distribution and collection of tools and other training materials using the appropriate forms and following the procedures of the institution/organization
