JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:                   Trust Accounting Officer

JOB GRADE:                 3

DEPARTMENT:              Trust Accounts

REPORTS TO:              Senior Trust Accountant

DIRECT REPORTS:       N/A

 

JOB PURPOSE

 

  • To document and record all financial transactions of Estates/Beneficiaries and reconcile all accounts.

 

KEY OUTPUTS

 

  • General ledgers maintained.
  • Monthly reconciliations prepared.
  • Interest calculated.

 

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

 

  • Accurate interest is calculated for all Estate/Beneficiary Trust accounts.
  • General Ledgers, monthly reconciliations and statements are prepared in accordance with stipulated guidelines, policies and procedures and agreed timeframes.
  • Agency policies and procedures are strictly followed.
  • Confidentiality and integrity is exercised.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITY

 

  • Calculate interest earned from investments
  • Maintain and monitor General Journals and General Ledgers and ensure that all appropriate entries are made.
  • Maintain individual Savings Account(s) for Estate/Beneficiaries.
  • Liaise with Case Officers and advise on the status of Estate/Beneficiary accounts.
  • Reconcile General Ledger and ensure this is in tandem with Savings and Investment Ledger.
  • Perform other related duties assigned from time to time by the Chief Trust Accountant.

 

JOB DIMENSIONS (AUTHORITY, SCOPE AND IMPACT OF JOB)

 

  • Verify all amounts to be invested.
  • Verify all amounts to be paid.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES

 

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of relevant computer applications including spreadsheet packages.
  • Detail conscious.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Five (5) subjects at GCE O’Level/CXC General Proficiency level including English Language and Mathematics/Accounts.
  • AAT Level I or equivalent qualification/training.
  • One (1) year’s related work experience.
