Junior Accountant (Contract)

General Accountability

The Junior Accountant is responsible for:

  1. Assisting with preparing financial statements (and note disclosures or supporting schedules) and related reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Assisting with performing control activities around the general ledger to ensure accurate balances are used for financial reporting.
  3. Assessing the applicability of withholding tax.

 

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation of periodic management accounts (for the Corporation or other assigned entities), financial commentaries, variance reports, and supporting schedules within established deadlines, for use by Executive Management and Board of Directors to monitor and assess performance.

  • Complete the preparation of Management accounts by the due dates as advised by Senior Accountant/Head – Accounting and Reporting.

Assist with preparing financial statements, year-end note disclosures, IFRS research and implementation.

  • Accurate completion by agreed dates.

Assess payments to non-resident vendors in accordance with the BIR’s Double Taxation Treaties or the Income Tax Act to determine withholding tax (WHT) liability.

  • Timely and accurate identification of WHT liabilities.

Identify, actively lead, or assist team members with ad hoc or scheduled projects, tasks, or initiatives to achieve identified goals, deadlines, or efficiencies or other benefits for the Finance Department or Corporation as a whole.

  • As agreed in advance.

The selected candidate must possess the following combination of qualifications, skills, training and experience:

A First Degree in a relevant field from an accredited tertiary institution OR

A Diploma in a relevant field from an accredited institution.

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar position within the financial industry. Suitable combination of training and experience. OR

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar position within the financial industry. Suitable combination of training and experience.

  • Pursuing a professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CGA or CMA or equivalent professional qualification (Level 2 ACCA, pursuing level 3) will be an asset.
  • Experience in the preparation of financial statements and technical accounting principles and standards (IFRS) will be an asset.
  • An appreciation of financial securities will be an asset.
  • Suitable combination of training and experience.
  • Audit experience will be an asset.
