POSITION SUMMARY 

As the Jr. Legal Specialist – Jamaica based, you will be responsible for providing operational support to the Head of Legal & Compliance by supporting in the implementation of L&C processes for the NJL business (NiM) by delivering legal, compliance, regulatory, reputational and other risk management strategies and solutions. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES …

  • Contracts Drafting, Negotiation and Conclusion - Drafting (from templates and/or from scratch), reviewing, amending, revising, negotiating, and terminating all commercial contracts, agreements, and legal documents of any nature.
  • Providing business-oriented legal advice on agreements/contracts directly to the relevant category/division/business unit.
  • Collaborating with and facilitating cross-team decision-making with the Procurement Team, the relevant category/business team/division and/or any other relevant internal stakeholder.
  • Driving contract lifecycle from drafting to signature through completion of the full negotiation process till signature.
  • Maintaining a deep understanding of local laws and regulations, contracts SOP, Nestle Jamaica legal requirements, legal risk and liability and Nestlé Group risks position on various matters.
  • Interpreting contracts and advising categories/business units on contractual responsibilities and risks mitigation
  • Corporate Governance and External Compliance -    Preparation of the Directors Minutes and Drafting and filing of statutory documents with the relevant registry.
  • Dispute Resolution, Investigation and Litigation - In alignment with direction from HOL, instruct and liaise with external counsel on litigation and other legal matters including managing the various disputes and coordinating litigation of our Nestlé affiliates in NJL and NiM
  • Attend court cases as a representative of Nestlé company and/or as a witness and Follow-up and monitor of court cases with the local lawyers and update the internal stakeholders accordingly.
  • Review pleadings/filings and Collaborate with the Country/Business Controller, the Head of Legal and Compliance and local counsel to follow-up litigation cases and to efficiently resolve lawsuits.
  • Digital and Data - Coordinating with the IP Champion the protection, enforcement and defence of the intellectual property rights (IPR) of Société des Products Nestlé S.A. in NJL.
  • Coordinating with the Data Privacy Champion the privacy and the protection of personal data captured, used, and shared by our Nestlé affiliates in NJL and in any NiM business.
  • Coordinating with the Digital Champion based in Trinidad and Tobago and advising any digital matter related to our Nestlé affiliates in NJL and with any relevant authority.
  • Corporate and Commercial Law/Business Partnering - In alignment with direction from Head of Legal provide legal advice to all areas of the company and the business units, upon request. 
  • Supporting our affiliates on any corporate and commercial matter by providing business legal advice.
  • Legal Business Partner for HR (employment contracts, terminations, dismissals, labour litigation etc.) in alignment and consultation with Head of Legal.   
  • Compliance - Continuously monitor compliance cumulatively with Nestlé principles and values, Nestlé's processes and policies and local laws and regulations and advise HOL accordingly.
  • Coordinating with and reporting any and all compliance topics to the Head of Legal and Rolls out Compliance Program and trainings in Jamaica, develops and delivers trainings upon specific needs of the NJL organisation. 

WHAT MAKES YOU SUCCESSFUL 

  • You must have a First Degree in Law
  • Certificate of Legal Education (from an accredited law school)   
  • At least 2 years’ prior experience in a similar role.
  • Understanding of Key Business Functions
  • Excellent Communication skill in both written and verbal
  • Proven experience in Legal function and projects
  • Experience working on high pressure / high visibility projects.
  • Proven successes working collaboratively with people from different disciplines and cultures.
  • External focus with an objective to connect with external stakeholders to anticipate emerging risks and legal trends, shape and leverage external landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and decide quickly and to communicate legal issues and solutions clearly and concisely.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities and efficiently under pressure and consistently meet tight deadlines.
