Primary objective of the job: 

As Group Technical Accounting Expert you will be responsible for all technical aspects of IFRS reporting for the Group; subject matter expert for the resolution of complex accounting issues and the application of accounting policies in accordance with IFRS; identify and implement best practices further enhancing the Group’s reporting process. 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Research and resolve accounting issues, prepare and deliver technical accounting papers to support accounting treatment
  • Manage communications with external auditors on external financial statements and accounting issues to ensure auditor agreement with company decisions on accounting disclosures, and issues
  • Monitor and ensure timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance, provide IFRS interpretation and prepare technical memorandums that document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
  • Implement and document new accounting policies and procedures with clarity and consistency ensuring timely compliance with IFRS
  • Responsible for assessment, calculation and appropriate documentation of acquisition and disposal accounting including fair value assessment, revenue recognition, impairment  testing of all financial and non financial assets and group re-organisations
  • Communicate and explain accounting issues / accounting guidance to the management team / Audit Committee with clarity and consistency
  • Work with various other ad hoc projects including working with procurement, commercial and sales teams to analyse contract terms which ensure appropriate accounting e.g. revenue recognition
  • Participate in the preparation, review and delivery of diverse financial reports on a routine basis under IFRS, including consolidated financial statements and quarterly Lender reports
  • Ensure that appropriate disclosures are made in external reports, and embed the collection of the required data into the close process

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience Required:

 

  • 5 – 7 years’ related experience.
  • 2+ years’ supervisory / management experience.
  • Professional accounting qualification – CPA/CA/ACA or equivalent
  • Excellent knowledge of IFRS and best practice for internal controls.
  • Proven experience in interpreting, simplifying and adopting pragmatic solutions to IFRS compliance. 

 

Functional Skills:

 

 

  • Superior oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of management
  • Strong understanding of financial processes, accounting, reporting and consolidation
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to leverage off system data to aid analysis & improve data integrity
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Prior experience in a multi-location accounting environment preferred
  • A result oriented and customer focused mentality
  • A true team player with a proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Strong sense of urgency and able to work under pressure
  • Strong sense of continuous process improvement and simplification
