Role Summary

The General Manager’s primary responsibility is to increase the operational efficiency of the business. The role includes ensuring a safe and efficient operation, serving as a company representative on regulatory issues and enhancing operational procedures, systems and principles in relation to information flow and management, business processes, and enhanced management reporting. The General Manager must be constantly looking for opportunities to improve and expand systems and processes.

Summary of duties and responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Maintain constant communication with his/her senior manager, management, staff, and vendors.
  • Develop short and long-term goals and strategies in collaboration with his/her senior manager and ensure implementation.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety and quality assurance protocols.
  • Improve the efficiency of existing organizational processes and procedures thereby enhancing and sustaining the organization’s internal capacity.
  • Actively pursue and achieve strategic and operational objectives.
  • Manage operational activities within agreed timelines and within the approved budget.
  • Analyse operating costs and sales reports monthly.
  • Determine and implement strategy for controlling costs, reducing wastage and improving productivity.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable departments.
  • Lead, motivate, and support a large team within a time-sensitive and demanding environment.
  • Set up and maintain the implementation of career development plans for all direct reports.
  • Attend to and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Effectively manage timely data collection to update operations metrics.
  • Achieve productivity targets, reduce cost per unit, eliminate errors, and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Partner with cross-functional support teams in improving proprietary tools and systems.
  • Conduct budget reviews and report cost plans to senior management.
  • Lead in the resolution of all customer related issues related to equipment quality, customer service, or accidents and mishaps on-site.
  • Oversee materials and inventory management.
  • Lead communication on all operating policies and/or issues at department meetings.
  • Review and approve all operational invoices and ensure they are submitted for payment.
  • Track vendor pricing, rebates and service levels.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, enforcing and following approved standards and procedures in compliance with legal requirements.

Qualifications & Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, business administration, or related field.
  • 8+ years of proven experience in an operations management position in FMCG, Catering or Aviation preferred
  • Knowledge in international business operations, labour laws, unions and collective agreements preferred.
  • Possess a sharp business mind and proven success managing multiple departments toward maximum productivity.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain an environment of trust, diversity, and inclusion within your team.
  • Strong budget development and oversight skills.
  • Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational control of branch operations and customer service.
  • Highly trained in conflict management and business negotiation processes.
  • Knowledge of general business software and aptitude to learn new applications. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) etc.
  • Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing; Spanish would be an asset.
