Job Title: General Labourer

Summary:

The General Labourer supports various construction and maintenance tasks on the job site. This role involves performing physical labor, operating basic tools and equipment, and assisting skilled tradespeople. The General Labourer ensures the site is safe, clean, and organized, contributing to the overall efficiency of the project.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Site Preparation and Maintenance:

   - Prepare construction sites by cleaning obstacles and hazards.

   - Load or unload construction materials and distribute them to the appropriate locations.

   - Erect and dismantle temporary structures such as scaffolding and barricades.

 

2. Assisting Tradespeople:

   - Assist skilled tradespeople, such as carpenters, bricklayers, and electricians, with their tasks.

   - Hold and supply tools, materials, and equipment to workers.

   - Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks.

 

3. Basic Construction Tasks:

   - Dig trenches, backfill holes, or compact earth to prepare for construction.

   - Mix, pour, and spread concrete and other materials.

   - Operate and care for construction equipment and machines.

 

4. Safety and Compliance:

   - Follow all health and safety regulations on the job site.

   - Wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

   - Report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.

 

5. Site Cleanliness and Organization:

   - Maintain a clean and orderly job site, removing debris, trash, and hazardous materials.

   - Ensure tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained, and stored properly.

 

6. Documentation and Reporting:

   - Complete and submit necessary paperwork and reports as directed.

   - Track materials usage and report any shortages to the Site Supervisor/Foreman.

 

Educational Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- On-the-job training usually provided.

 

Experience Requirements:

- Previous experience in construction or manual labor is preferred but not required.

- Ability to operate basic hand tools and power equipment.

 

Skills and Competencies:

- Strong work ethic and physical stamina.

- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and lift heavy objects.

- Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures.

- Good communication and teamwork skills.

- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

 

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects.

- Stamina to stand, walk, and work long hours in various weather conditions.

- Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate tools and equipment.
