GENDER SPECIALIST

The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) is seeking to identify a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of Gender Specialist in its Social Policy, Planning and Research Division.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director, Social Protection and Gender Unit, the Specialist will promote and assist the integration of gendered perspectives in all aspects of the work of the Division and the wider PIOJ, support and evaluate gender mainstreaming in the PIOJ and its stakeholders, and generally perform the role of gender spokesperson for the Institute.
Main Responsibilities

1. Provide technical advice on strategies to strengthen modalities for gender equality and equity in social development planning.
2. Promote and support the implementation of the Gender Sector Plan in the Vision 2030 Jamaica, through active advocacy and dissemination of information and support to relevant Thematic Working Groups.
3. Advise on the formulation of gender-sensitive policies in the context of the cultural realities.
4. Support policy and programme processes towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals;
5. Provide guidance within the PIOJ on the treatment of gender-related issues in research, analysis, publications, presentations, and project design.
6. Provide technical input to the work of the Division and the PIOJ, to strengthen the gender focus.
Qualification and Experience Required
• Post graduate qualification in the Social Sciences with specific training in social policy and gender analysis, research methods, programme management and evaluation.
• At minimum three years’ working experience in a similar or related capacity.
• Proven experience in the public sector will be a distinct advantage.
Attributes/Skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with specific emphasis on Technical Writing
• Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
• Ability to work with persons at various organisational levels.
• Ability to prioritise multiple tasks to meet deadlines
• Ability to work on own initiative
