The Financial Controller, reporting directly to the CEO, is responsible for the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the company’s financial reporting. Establishing the company’s financial goals (in conjunction with the CEO and Directors), its budget and the financial plan.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the role is responsible for the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the company’s financial reporting. The Financial Controller is responsible for establishing the company’s financial goals (in conjunction with the CEO and Directors), its budget and the financial plan. The FC also has responsibility to ensure that the company is compliant with its internal controls, accounting policies, International Financial Reporting Standards and applicable regulations.

Main Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Analyses financial statements and prepares reports to the Chief Executive Officer concerning financial performance.
  • Analyses the company’s performance versus target and provides a revised forecast where material.
  • Manages cash management processes and treasury ensuring proper cash availability to cover obligations and best use of cash
  • Reviews all period end activities, ensuring the period end financial statements accurately reflects the results of the company’s activities
  • Directs the Accounting Department in day-to-day activities provides strategy, direction and development plans.
  • Responsible for the timely filing of quarterly results with the JSE and FSC. Reviews and submits all financial statements as required by law and company policy.
  • Main contact between the company, External Auditors and coordinates the company’s audit activities and responses.
  • Manages banking, Tax authority, vendor and regulatory relationships.
  • Liaising with banks, Tax Administration Jamaica, Parent Company and Board of Directors.
  • Manages the preparation of the annual budget and driving strategic planning in conjunction with the CEO and CFO.
  • Any other duties needed to support the accounting function and the company’s objectives.
Qualifications
  • University degree in accounting, finance or business studies, and;
  • ACCA, CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • 5+ years’ accounting experience with atleast 2 years at the Senior Level.
Functional Skills & Abilities 
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify, prevent and correct errors/deficiencies in accounting
  • Knowledge of IFRS
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Initiative to identify and implement process improvements for the role, department and business
  • Highly intelligent and highly motivated
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines, enforce deadlines and work under pressure
  • Highly Advanced Excel & PowerPoint skills
  • Advanced use of QuickBooks or equivalent accounting systems
