English Language & Literature Teacher

A high school located in St. James is seeking an English Language & Literature Teacher.

Teachers’ Focus

  • To understand, embrace and facilitate student access to and integration of the curriculum.
  • To participate actively in the overall progress and development of every student, providing all students with the highest level of personable, professional and holistic support for their success.
  • To facilitate and encourage an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment where students excel with the international, entrepreneurial and socio-emotional vision of the school's mission and vision.

Criteria for this position:

  • Bachelor's Degree/ Master's Preferred
  • 5+ years’ teaching experience

General Roles

  • Excellence in classroom teaching, employing best practices in 21st Century education
  • Proper oversight of student health, safety, discipline and ethical development
  • Appropriate and professional communication at all times with all relevant stakeholders
  • Understanding completely and integrating the school's learning management system to communicate daily with parents and students about student learning and adjustment.

Teaching

  • Plan and teach daily well-structured lessons, adhering to the school's Global Reach Curriculum, while challenging students at or above their level
  • Communicate absences and tardies immediately to the School Secretary
  • Coordinate content and syllabi with history and English teachers, ideally with an eye for the Diploma Programme standards
  • Ensure that you cover your classes completely daily, giving fair notice to the Head Principal when that is not possible, with lesson plans, coverage and contingency plans to ensure student learning is not interrupted or impaired
  • Promote daily progress, work habits, skill development and outcomes for students
  • Earn unpretentiously your students’ respect for your authority and mastery of your subject and curriculum
  • Educate all your students creatively, using differentiated learning strategies at all times
  • Engage students in ways that invite them to celebrate their strengths and manage their weaknesses
  • Assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of students and to keep such records as are required
  • Provide, or contribute to, oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students including formative and summative assessments
  • Ensure a high-quality learning experience for students which meets internal and external quality standards
  • Prepare and update content materials and utilize technology in lessons
  • Use a variety of delivery methods which will stimulate learning appropriate to student needs and demands of the syllabus
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures, and to encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.
  • Undertake assessment of students as requested by external examination bodies, departmental and school procedures

Personal and Professional Conduct

  • Take part in the school’s evaluation and standardized testing procedures
  • Take part in further training and development in order to improve own teaching
  • Where appropriate, take part in the collaboration and professional development of others
  • Uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school
  • Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality
  • Understand and act within the statutory frameworks setting out your professional duties and responsibilities
