The incumbent is responsible for auditing & leading maintenance and repair works, execution of PMs, changeovers, troubleshooting & monitoring on both plant and equipment.

 

 Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the execution of both reactive and preventive maintenance (mechanical, infrastructural and electrical), as required, to effectively protect the state and functionality of the assets.
  • Lead in the overhaul PM program as per PM schedule and/or assignment.
  • Provide regular updates on PM execution, challenges and aid with revisions to the preventive maintenance plan to ensure effective & sufficient maintenance activities.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and assigned tasks diligently, on time and accurately. 
  • Provides information for the preventive maintenance database to reduce to zero reoccurrence of avoidable machine breakdowns and reporting any obstacles found when the execution is not efficient.
  • Lead/perform all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic works on the company equipment to maintain a high standard of operating efficiency within the department.
  • Conduct & lead corrective maintenance activities on machinery according to manufacturer’s recommendations and specified response times as well as maintenance SOPs. Maintain records of all PMs executed.
  • Respond to unexpected machine stoppage / breakdowns within 10 minutes when on plant & assist/lead with repairs.
  • Lead and maintain the following: Proper tools, sense of urgency, proper attitude, technical documentation available, correct spares, knowledge to tackle the problem at hand, follow up with superiors where knowledge is insufficient.
  • Execute corrective work with good quality control to ensure no re-work.
  • Lead in the analysis, design, installation and/or fabrication of new equipment, machinery and related accessories of all equipment.
  • Monitoring devices & equipment and immediately report any abnormalities, non-functional or malfunctioning parts, as well as leaks to the Engineering Supervisor.
  • Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance and safety activities including test results, instrument readings and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work.
  • Perform equipment changeovers within the stipulated time frames. Assist with troubleshooting and line adjustments to ensure the production lines are functional.
  • Ensure/check/assess machines before scheduled start-up as per the weekly production plan. 
  • Be aware of the Weekly Production and Engineering schedules;
  • Ensure equipment handovers (after PM and repairs) are properly handed over (verbal, WhatsApp & via email) to the respective stakeholders.
  • Work to ensure that use and control of spares and time are within expected levels.  
  • Exercise care in the maintenance of equipment to avoid premature failure and shortened life. 
  • Notify superiors of any tools and/or spare parts required for execution of repairs.
  • Prepare reports of activities as required by the Engineering Supervisor
  • Train to perform the duties and responsibilities of alternate positions within the Engineering Department.
  • Communicates equipment related downtimes and major breakdowns (exceeding 10 mins) to key stakeholders. Provide details of the root cause of these as well as repairs required and timelines to address.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in the execution of maintenance activities.
  • Maintain tools, spares, and other equipment with such care that they are not left lying in or on machinery, on the factory floor or generally out of place.
  • Conforms to and enforces all established departmental and company policies, procedures and objectives, GMPs, food safety and HSE site protocols.
  • Immediately report any non-conformances relating to maintenance operations to the Engineering Supervisor and/or Manager.
  • Perform administrative functions such as updating department databases, google sheets, preparation and distribution of routine production reports as well as development of SOPs and checklists.
  • Performs other related tasks and responsibilities as required by the Engineering Manager and/or Supervisor.
  • Undergo any job-related training required by the company.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Diploma in MEET, EEET, MET, 2yr Journeyman Certificate or equivalent qualifications.
  • First degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering would be an asset;
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience as a Maintenance Technician in the manufacturing industry.
  • Physically fit, able to handle heavy loads (ability to safely lift 25kg unassisted)
  • Ability to work well in a team;
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience with performing repetitive and hands-on tasks;
  • Must be flexible to work on different lines, shifts or duties assigned by Supervisor.
  • Time management skills and organizational skills
