Our client, a leading luxury hospitality destination is seeking to recruit an Engineering Assistant.
Responsible For:
Supports the Technical Services department daily with engineering, maintenance tasks and responsibilities as directed by his/her manager.
Carry out rolling planned preventative maintenance program on property utility services, including but not limited to: diesel power plant; RO plant; medium and low voltage transmission systems; switch gear; fuel distribution systems; waste and potable water systems.
Oversees all responsibilities related to the on-call engineering duties on the property as dictated by the schedule.
Key Objectives:
To manage the safe, efficient and reliable operation of property power and water systems.
To provide support and cover for the Technical Services Manager, in order to ensure high property plant uptimes.
Maintain systems, spares inventory and procurement via the use of Computerized Maintenance software.
Detailed Responsibilities:
Diesel Power Plant:
- Ensure day to day routine maintenance of all generators to include oil checks, leaks and failures.
- Ensure engine data is logged daily for each machine, either by power plant control/monitoring PLC or by hand.
- Ensure power plant is maintained, clean, tidy and a safe working environment. Log all relevant information including, oil lube sampling, engine condition inspection measurements, oil and fuel consumption.
- Maintain an inventoried stock of generator spares incorporating reorder points (ROP's) via collaboration with Procurement, local CAT dealership and use of CAT Service Information System.
- Diagnose and action machine failures with the aid of CAT ET software.
Fuel storage:
- Check fuel storage systems daily for leaks, failures and fire hazards
- Ensure proper operation of fuel management systems, including power plant consumption, property distribution and tank monitoring systems.
- Maintain and operate fuel polishing system
RO Plant and finished water distribution system:
- Ensure that the daily readings are being logged for monitoring purposes. Keep an organized and tidy log of all readings and problems.
- Ensure daily checks are performed concerning fluid, lube, water levels, dosing system, the calcium carbonate dispenser.
- Ensure RO room is cleaned and locked daily.
- Maintain suitable stock levels of spares and implement ROP's
- Follow schedule to control the corrosion within the RO Room and the distribution pumps
Storeroom
- Implement monthly stock take/ Inventories of all parts required for each plant as advised by Maintenance Supervisor/Technical Services Manager/Service Provider.
- Keep storerooms locked, organized and clean
Other:
- Place all orders via purchase order module in Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS)
- Report any plant related failures or major issues to the Technical Services Manager immediately.
- Take care of all tools and working equipment. All equipment to be operated, and directed for operation by others in a safe and efficient manner
- Suggest other developments that would benefit the department operationally and economically
- Maintain stock levels and ensure safe storage and handling of volatile items.
- Ensure company controls and statutory procedures are understood, followed and enforced.
- Respond to emergencies including fire and accident.
- Ensure all equipment is functional and used in accordance with manufactures and safety guidelines. Report any malfunctions of equipment to the Manager.
- Have a clear working knowledge of the company policies and operate within them at all times and to ensure staff awareness of all policies
- To co-operate with management and other workers and to ensure a harmonious working and living atmosphere.
- To attend meetings as required and to support the communication process.
- To carry out any other duties as reasonably requested made by management.
- When required, provide night cover / stay on property / provide holiday cover.
- To assist management to ensure that all health ft safety requirements are met and that working practices are monitored for safety where appropriate.
- To be willing to work extended hours (may be without notice), based on business demand.
- To be hands on in supporting the property in a general capacity and willing to assist other departments when required
General Requirements
- Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Experience in power generation or related industry.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
