Our Client, the National Helicopter Services Limited (NHSL), is seeking to fill the position of Director of Operations.

JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Operations (DOO) reports to the Accountable Manager and serves as a member of the Executive Management team. A key position under the Aircraft Operator Certificate (AOC), the Director of Operations is responsible for managing and ensuring that the full range of the company’s flight operations functions are conducted effectively in a safe and efficient manner whilst adhering to regulatory and client requirements, organizational standards and approved operational policies and procedures.

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drives a strong operations function visible to Executive Leadership, ensuring aircraft and crew operate to the highest level of efficiency, safety and cost effectiveness whilst confirming to all regulatory, company and approved client requirements.
  2. Determines and maintains the core manpower levels, skill sets and competencies required among the flight crew and operations personnel to support efficient department performance and the overall accomplishment of the organisation’s vision and strategic goals.
  3. Collaborates with senior managers in articulating the strategic business goals of the organisation and driving its implementation with a focus on the Operations Department.
  4. Leads and develops the Flight and Ground Operations team by supporting a system focused on training and development, coaching, mentoring and employee engagement to facilitate a high performing operations function.
  5. Works closely with the Director of Maintenance to ensure maintenance and flight operations are coordinated effectively in executing the daily flight programme and any forecasted maintenance or operation checks.
  6. Develops, maintains and fosters positive and healthy working relationships among clients, vendors, staff, colleagues and especially the regulatory body.
  7. Flies the line at least 25% of the monthly pilot roster and performs line check duties when required.
  8. Participates in the recruitment, selection, contract negotiation and retention process involving departmental staff.
  9. Ensures the effective development of direct reports to improve departmental efficiency and support business continuity.
  10. Ensures the Company Flight Operations Manual and any related Safety, Security and Quality procedures are adequately implemented, monitored and updated in support of company, regulatory and client compliance.
  11. Oversees the revenue targets and cost budgets of the department and where necessary participates fully in various financial, costing and budgeting exercises.
  12. Provides technical information, advice and relevant reports on aircraft performance, payloads, etc., for management’s use in bid preparation, aircraft evaluation and overall decision making.
  13. Hosts audits from regulatory bodies and clients, responds to queries and concerns raised and rectifies where appropriate.
  14. Performs other duties related to the job function, which may be required from time to time.

  

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • A valid Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) with IR and AW-139 type rating.
  • An MBA or Post Graduate qualification in Aviation would be an asset.
  • Sikorsky S76 type rating would be an asset.
  • A minimum of 6000 flight hours, with at least 1500 offshore and Pilot in Command (PIC) experience on a medium twin rotorcraft.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ flight operations management experience.
