Reports to the Chief Operations Officer and oversees the development and delivery of meteorological and aeronautical services, aligning with the Authority's strategy, budgets, regulations, and agreements while advancing Bermuda's national meteorological service.

As the Director, Bermuda Weather Service (“BWS”), you will be reporting to the Chief Operations Officer.  You will be accountable for the development and delivery of meteorological and aeronautical information products and services, in accordance with the Authority's strategic objectives; with due regard to agreed operational and capital expenditure budgets and financial instructions, as well as according to local and international regulations and agreements.  The Director also ensures the continued development of BWS as the national meteorological and hydrological service for Bermuda following local and international regulations and, where applicable, recommendations.

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 Managing all operations within BWS, supporting the Deputy as needed.  Ensuring the delivery of current products and services and the development of new products and services, in accordance with the Authority's strategic plan as well as local and international regulations and, when required, recommendations.

  • Leading and overall management of the BWS Team.
  • Managing the BWS operational budget, and BWS capital asset project planning and management.
  • Managing key local and international stakeholder relationships.  Is the lead point of contact for Bermuda’s National Meteorological and Hydrological Service.
  • Managing and maintaining the Authority’s health and safety management systems
  • Carrying out the duties and responsibilities as a Meteorological Forecaster when required and staying up to date with required certifications.
  • Carrying out any other such reasonable duties within the general scope of the job function.

 The minimum education and experience requirements include:

  • A recognized Bachelor of Science degree with a minimum of five years of recent experience in operational meteorology, qualification as an Aeronautical Meteorological Forecaster and three years of management experience, or
  • In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, applicants with ten years of experience in an operational meteorological environment, qualification as an Aeronautical Meteorological Forecaster and three years of management experience may also be considered.

The following will be considered assets:

  • Prior experience working with the Bermuda Weather Service.
  • Prior tropical and marine weather forecasting experience.
