Dental Hygienist

The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of Dental Hygienist, responsible for educating the community on the importance of proper Dental Health with specific reference to diet and oral hygiene, and to perform preventative and curative oral hygiene procedures in a clinic setting.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):

 

Accreditation Readiness & Document Control System

1.     Organizes and conducts Dental Health Educational programmes on the four main inhabited islands within the BVI:

 (a)Schedules school health talks on an annual basis (conducts lectures or practical sessions);

 (b)Organizes the annual fluoride programme (collaborate with school principals; prepares, distributes and manages consent forms of the participating schools; educates and supervises the team in charge of administering the fluoride rinse);

 (c) Participates in at least two health fairs a year.

 

2.      Co-ordinates with all the schools a regular schedule to perform in-school dental screenings and make needed referrals, keeping a record of all findings to be submitted to the Director of Dental Health.

 

3.      Administers preventative and curative treatment to patients in all operational dental clinics: performing routine intra-oral examinations and therefore referring patients as needed (i.e. to Dental Nurse or Dentist); taking, developing and mounting radiographs; scaling and curettage; prophylaxis; fluoride administration and oral hygiene instructions.

 

4.      Prepares record and keeps accurate documentation on each treated patient. Later compiling this information for monthly statistics.

 

5.      Sterilizes instruments and proper maintenance of equipment

Minimum Requirements:

Educational/Training Requirements

v  Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene Programme

v  Basic Life Support training

Experience

v  Two years of prerequisite and general education courses

v  Two years of dental hygiene course work

 

Licenses/Certificates

v  Bachelors of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities

v  Good communication skills and works well in groups

v  Able to coordinate and organize educational programmes

v  Able to convey pertinent information in a readily understandable manner

v  Pleasant personality

 

Physical Demands

v    Manual Dexterity

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
