Commissioner, CARICOM Competition Commission
GUIDE FOR APPLICANTS
The Regional Judicial and Legal Services Commission (RJLSC) is mandated to:
1. Appoint seven persons to be members of the Competition Commission established by Article 171 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, and
2. Appoint a Chairman of the Commission from among those appointed as members.
Applications are invited from persons who are Nationals of Member States participating in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and having considerable expertise or experience in one or more of the following fields:
▪ Law
▪ Competition Policy and Practice
▪ International Trade
▪ Commerce
▪ Finance
▪ Economics
▪ Other relevant fields
The appointment will be for a term of five years and is renewable at the discretion of the RJLSC for a further term of five years. The appointment will be part-time, non-salaried and non-pensionable. However, Members of the Commission will be paid a monthly retainer of US$1000 and, in addition, will be paid fees for participating in meetings and enquiries as well as for preparation and reading at a rate of EC$2223 per day.
A key institution of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), the CARICOM Competition Commission will administer and enforce the Community Competition Policy to ensure that the benefits expected from the establishment of the CSME are not frustrated by anti-competitive business conduct. The Commission will play a pivotal role in maintaining competition and enhancing consumer protection in regional markets.
ELIGIBILITY
Nationality
In order to qualify for appointment, you must be a citizen of one of the following countries:
In the application form, you must list all of the countries of which you are a citizen, whether they are CARICOM Member States or not.
Public Officers
Serving civil servants and holders of public office in CARICOM Member States are not eligible for appointment. This restriction does not apply to persons who have retired from the civil service.
Elected officials, Parliamentarians, etc.
Persons holding elected office such as Members of Parliament as well as Parliamentary Secretaries and Ministers of Government are also precluded from serving as Members of the Commission. Government and opposition senators are also excluded.
HOW TO APPLY
Applications must be made on the prescribed Application Form and may be accompanied by a Curriculum Vitae and any other information which the applicants may consider necessary. Short-listed applicants may be required to attend an interview in Trinidad & Tobago.
