Job Summary: 

 

The Assistant Accountant supports the management of the company's Accounting and Finance functions, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and accounting standards to maintainaccurate financial records. This supervisory role provides leadership to accounting technicians, assists in developing controls for efficient financial processes, and drives organizational change toward a performance-driven culture. Additional responsibilities include supporting planning and budgeting processes, fostering knowledge sharing, and ensuring effective coordination across divisions within the organization. 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. 

  Assist in preparing rolling year-to-date (YTD) and six-month cash flow projections. 

  Approve and post journal entries in the general ledger, ensuring all entries are supported with appropriate documentation. 

  Review and reconcile specified general ledger accounts, resolving discrepancies in a timely manner. 

  Oversee and review the work of accounting technicians, providing guidance and support as required. 

  Contribute to the preparation and detailed analysis of annual budgets, including collaborating with department heads to ensure timely and comprehensive submission of budget data in alignment with deadlines. 

  Prepare variance analysis reports to facilitate the review of monthly financial reports, including investigation and analysis of sales and expense variances, to support management decision-making. 

  Prepare, verify, and distribute Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports to aid management in timely decision-making. 

  Compile and verify daily and weekly sales and statistical reports. 

  Ensureaccurate recording and categorization of business expenses within the accounting system. 

  Manage the month-end close process, adhering to the established group reporting schedule. 

  Coordinate with internal and external auditors by providing necessary documentation and explanations during audits. 

  Prepare internal reports and assist the financial accountant in producing financial reports for management. 

  Assist in preparing and submitting tax returns, including VAT and corporate tax filings. 

  Identify inefficiencies or bottlenecks in accounting processes and recommend process improvements. 

  Provide analytical and technical support to the Shared Services team and assist associates with reporting-related queries. 

  Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, including health, safety, security, and environmental standards. 

  Perform other job-related tasks as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor. 

 

 

Requirements 

  • ACCA Level 2 or 3 

  • At least five years work experience in the accounting field 

  • 1-2 years supervisor experience 

  • Computer Literate – Working knowledge of MS Office and a computerized financial application.
