Accounting Technician

 

ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the permanent position of Accounting Technician, in the Finance Business Unit. The position is at the level of Grade 5 in the Company’s compensation structure and will report to the Senior Manager – Cost Management and Projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares period-end journal entries in the Sage general ledger for all companies as required.
  • Assists with month-end and year-end financial close process as required.
  • Completes local bank reconciliations and specific supporting schedules under the Asset Management Business Unit.
  • Completes special reporting and ad-hoc projects as directed.
  • Supports the reconciliation of intercompany and divisional balances.
    • Researches, compiles and interprets accounting data to aid with variance analysis.
  • Assists with the completion of balance sheet reconciliations and schedules as required.
    • Provides accounting support and assistance within the Finance Business Unit, on a as needed basis, as assigned by the Senior Manager of Cost Management & Projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and necessary for the advancement of the Department and by extension the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited.

 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

 

  • Completed a recognized Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
  • Enrolled in a recognized professional accountancy programme (i.e., ACCA, CPA, CMA).
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ working experience in an Accounting and/or Finance environment.
  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Experience in account reconciliations will be an asset.Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite would be an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent time management, problem solving and organization skills.
  • Attention to detail, the ability to cope with several tasks simultaneously and be deadline
  • oriented.Ability to demonstrate initiative and work autonomously.
  • Previous work experience in an insurance environment would be an asset.
